It does depend on the window as it's volatile, according to table 211/212, CAGRs are: 4% from 1996 to 2020 - 1.5x each decade 8% from 2005 and 2019 - 2.15x each decade 5% from 2010 to 2020 - 1.6x each decade Energy is more or less bound to get a lot more expensive over the next decade, as indeed it should given the destructive effects fossil fuels have. So invest in energy generation, insulation and energy efficient heating (aka heat pumps) and transport (aka public transport and electric cars). That's of course unless the nutters (aka 'right' wing) take over in which case energy will temporarily get cheaper as a populist stunt, cynically to take control, but once control is taken and the science asserts it's supremacy (because the science is supreme) your children will need to be in the top 1% of wealth to avoid living in conditions that are close to, but not quite, intolerable, as servants to people locked away in air conditioned boxes in the remaining habitable parts of the planet. It's your choice through the ballot box. Use it wisely Edited September 25 by JamesPa
Dave Jones
as seems to be routine with MCS salesman cart before the horse. Before you even think about ASHP, get heat loss calcs done. This will give you the knowledge if its even viable, if you can upgrade some building elements etc It's not hard to do if you take your time or pay someone to do it for you. Only once you have this can you make an informed decision and look at costs.
joe90
I was arranging my daughters house insurance yesterday and was suprised to read that we had to confirm oil central heating was not used 🤷♂️

Our Post Office insurance covers leaking oil so by implication oil c.h. (which has now been scrapped after 29 years) and the AGA. Good news is that there are no stipulations about PV, batteries or heat pumps. I guess they are an accepted part of the fabric now. Bad news is that premium has gone up this year by >50% and I have not been able to fiind a cheaper alternative. Confused.com could not offer any quote at all - no reason given. Yeah, you have the slightest internal leak and the house stinks forever. If it gets into flooring or anything it's scrap. Never been to a house with an internal oil boiler that didn't smell of diesel fuel near the boiler.
