architrave-less internal doors help

Recommended Posts

hi just had a kit house completed.

Doing all the door linings and hanging doors myself.

It's quite modern finish and love the 'achitrave-less' look

I was speaking to a joiner who said that i'll always get cracking where I fill and paint at the junction between my door lining and wall.

But there must be a filler mix or other trick that can withstand the vibrations of door latch vibrating lining?

any ideas

thanks in advance

Oliver

There’s a bit more to it than just leaving the architrave off, as that will crack over and over again, it’s something that needs looking into before you board the walls, or at least before you skim depending on the trim you use.

Its certainly a more expensive job than having architrave.

You would need a bead taped onto the edge of the board before it’s fixed It’s normal to allow a three mill gap between the bead and casing

Do you mean something like this?

What happens to any packers used to set the door linings - won't they be visible?

Yes exactly like that

We mainly use them for shadow gaps

and where a board butts up agains an ally frame

Tap onto the cut edge of the board and staple the webbing every 200
