NotJustin
Yes, I thought I worded that wrong, I didn't mean the roof and water. Haha. More the breathing of the materials. Thanks for the tip regarding the insulation. Good advice. We're definitely learning as we go along
Thedreamer
What type of ground floor has it got? The church in our community, Staffin, Isle of Skye is currently being renovated (Thomas Telford design) it had a suspended timber floor and was completely destroyed by dry rot. A lot of work in that project.
NotJustin
It has a suspended timber floor. Very large floor area.
Ferdinand
What happened to that Communion Table? It looks quite formidable. (Not that I'm offering). I think that Freemasons tended to be aligned with whatever was the local establishment.
NotJustin
The communion table is still there. We're not intending to remove it, unlike the plans of the previous owner ?
NotJustin
For those who might be interested there is a Wikipedia page for the church: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lochcarron_Old_Parish_Church
NotJustin
This is the ceiling, 26ft up to the rafters. We were thinking insulation wouldn't make a lot of difference, especially as that area is unheatable.
ProDave
The bottom left section of that roof is in a bad way. The more I see of this, the more I am convinced roof off and full refurbishment adding insulation is the only way. That is going to want scaffold inside and out I would expect to attend to the interior planking that I assume you want to keep. I see little point in trying to do this piecemeal. I would buy a few large tarpaulins and fix those over the roof to keep the weather out until you have the finds to do it properly and thoroughly. NotJustin
Thanks for the advice. Yes, it's in a bad way. We were so close to sorting pre lockdown
