SuzyG
Not far from filling in completion form for new build. And therefore looking forward to the VAT reclaim shortly afterwards.
newhome
Welcome. Fancy telling us something about your build?
SuzyG
We're in Moray Scotland. We now have a lovely wood clad eco house. It took us 7 years from buying the plot to moving in - last summer. Lots of headaches but definitely worth it in the end.

I wonder who built it and please show us some pics. Findhorn by any chance?
SuzyG
Not Findhorn though our architect is. We're near the Macallan distillery. We had a local joiner/builder build it. He did a fantastic job despite coming across MVHR for the first time.

newhome
Looks lovely! For info since you mentioned VAT there is a VAT sub forum that has a guide to the reclaim process but you have to have made 10 posts to view it.
SuzyG
Thank you. It was quite a fight to get a mortgage.
SuzyG
I'll see if I can find the vat stuff. One thing I've found already on here is a certificate for 0% vat. One of our contractors insisted on billing us with vat and I couldn't persuade them otherwise. I think this certificate is the key to getting best part of a grand back off them. Ralph
That looks really nice, well done. Friends of ours used to live near Archiestown so I know the area well. Lovely part of the world.
jamieled
Looks top notch, well done. We're also building a timber framed and clad house over near Cannich. Parents live in Archiestown though, so we pop over when the whisky's running low. The new macallan distillery building is also quite interesting. There is also a certificate you can use at the back of VAT Notice 708. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/buildings-and-construction-vat-notice-708#section18
SuzyG
That's the certificate we need. Excellent. Macallan building looks stunning and is very busy (usually). Not been yet though. Typical with it being on our doorstep!
