  1. Hi we are getting a grant aerona and the electrician asked when he wires it up can we run it for a few days before it's commissioned by the Grant person? Does that sound ok?
  2. Sorry for picture quality, I think i took it in a national trust visit but it struck me as a possibly cheap way to do the initial pathway around the house. We need a digger to move some top soil and dig a trench for the sewer but I was thinking coould it level off a path? and I presume i dig in this plank and then put gravel? Anything else? Would it work on a slope? I might use it too for a temporary patio. Oh other matter builder wants to do a manhole otside front door (its in the middle) and re BT there will be 2" ducting to take it into the house. Can it go to the manhole or straight into the house?
  3. Thanks, unfortunately I can't push back the date but I work shifts for by taking 3 off, I have 9 in a row. Although stressed the GP gave me a talking to so I am now trying to do the minimum to get in and stop the masochism. I know at the end it will be worth it but I have a lot of people depending on me (a few vulnerable)so I need to get there. Anyway, a wee bit of excitement creeping in again so that helps lol.
  4. Iceverge Thank you, was it an actual wet room? Can you recall products you used to waterproof, adhesive and cover in top? Nervous because everywhere is saying you can't. Only other solution that seems ok is this creative resin like in swimming pools but then what do I use for the actual drain? Is it the one for vinyl not tiles? Sorry self build hub, we are moving in 3 weeks so pressure is on. It's overwhelming! https://search.app?link=https%3A%2F%2Fcreative-resins.co.uk%2Fnon-slip-floor-paint%2F%23%3A~%3Atext%3DCreative%20Resins%20brings%20to%20you%2Cdemands%20such%20as%20wet%20rooms.&utm_campaign=aga&utm_source=agsadl1%2Csh%2Fx%2Fgs%2Fm2%2F4
  5. Just occured to me I should have grabbed paint for front before the scaffold comes down on Monday. It's not much to do and the rest is accessible. But what paint? Silicone? Waterproof and breathable sounds great. Smooth render. Thanks
  6. Thank you, I have the square stick down ones. Happy days. How did you do the sides?
  7. My dad fell on ceramic tiles years ago so now I am a bit afraid of mum falling. Beginning to think its the only real option. Screed going down on Tuesday so I need to make up my mind on this today to get the parts for the plumber.
  8. I have the tiles so if I put Mapei Mapecoat as a waterproof barrier on the screed, followed by Mapei’s Ultrabond ECO VS90 as an adhesive then on top Mapei Mapecoat 4LVT Non Slip Matt Finish for a protective, non-slip top layer - would that work? or else tell me something that isn't hard ceramic tiles that doesn't cost something eye watering. Also impossible to get anyone to do vinyl here without it being astronomic.
  9. Yep I was just going to settle the bill less vat and he can do the reclaim
  10. It's under his name, not mine. Do you think that's ok? It just means less money I need to transfer (for now).
  11. My builder ordered some things for our build and I was wondering could I phone up and pay account with my new 0% credit card (helps with cash flow) . He isn't charging us vat, he is reclaiming it. It's just it buys us some time.
  12. Hello so went to get a key safe and discovered there is so much to it. Between police preferred which I take it is meaningless unless it has actual certificates for insurance. Anyway looking at the ark tempo and it's got huge screws, thinking of my 200 cavity/ thermal bridging. Is it an issue? I need the key safe for carers to see mum.
  13. Yikes are they suitable for underfloor heating?
  14. Any photos? We are putting down PIR on a slab next week and currently pretty clueless
  15. How can I turn a plastic adaptable weatherproof box that is grey to be black without paint flaking? We have some black liner that was put under decking, would zip tying it on be insane? (Above a transformer high up)
  16. So we need to put in water pipes between the layers? Like the pipe to feed water to the island. So we cut out the insulation for them so the top insulation lies flat? Anyone any pics?
  17. It's for the whole ground floor. The front of the house is slab, the back poured. So we need to get down the membrane get the PIR, stagger it, tape and what a long edges internal, external? What about in bathrooms around pipes?
  18. what is the TF70 u value The Kingspan TF70 has a thermal conductivity (lambda value) of around 0.022 W/m²K. This is the same thermal conductivity value as Kingspan TP10. The U-value you achieve with TF70 will depend on the thickness of the board and the overall construction. For example, thicker boards provide better insulation (lower U-values). Here are some typical examples for Kingspan TF70: 50mm thickness: U-value ~ 0.44 W/m²K (approximate) 100mm thickness: U-value ~ 0.22 W/m²K (approximate) 150mm thickness: U-value ~ 0.15 W/m²K (approximate) These values depend on the specifics of the floor or installation system you are using, as U-values are calculated based on the entire construction layer (not just the insulation board). So the architect specified 150mm with 2 layers 50 below and 100 on top with minimus 25mm screed
  19. Sheesh still trying to get this floor down. Head is done in tbh. Got 2 quotes but am I comparing like with like re u values? Chat GPT said this but is it right? Both Unilin Thin-R and Kingspan Thermaboard TF70/TP10 are high-performance insulation products, but they differ in terms of their specific applications, thickness, and thermal performance (U-values). Here’s a comparison based on U-values and thermal efficiency: 1. Unilin Thin-R Underfloor Insulation U-value: Thin-R boards generally have U-values around 0.021–0.023 W/m²K depending on thickness. Applications: Suitable for underfloor insulation (including screeds and suspended floors). Material: Polyisocyanurate (PIR) rigid board with foil facings. Features: High-performance in thinner profiles, which can help in spaces where height restrictions are important. 2. Kingspan Thermaboard TF70/TP10 U-value: Kingspan TF70/TP10 typically offers U-values of around 0.022 W/m²K (for TP10) and slightly higher for TF70, which is more targeted at specific floor applications. Applications: TF70 is designed for floors, while TP10 is more of a general-purpose insulation board (roof, walls, and floors). Material: PIR rigid board with a foil facing as well. Features: Kingspan products are known for superior thermal efficiency, making them ideal for a range of insulation applications. They also often have better fire resistance ratings. Comparison: U-value performance: Both products offer similar U-values, with minor variations based on thickness. Application suitability: For underfloor applications, both are appropriate, but Unilin Thin-R might be preferable in cases where minimal thickness is crucial. Fire resistance: Kingspan products tend to have better fire ratings compared to Unilin in many cases. In terms of pure thermal performance (U-values), they are quite comparable, with Kingspan often being preferred for its well-known brand reliability and higher fire safety performance.
  20. Cousin fell off ladder cleaning gutter, now he feels nothing below his chest.
