  1. Haha absolutely, and working off a ladder is what they did. Seems to have done the trick and a fair price so all is well.
  2. Anything to consider with regard to going up in size from 800mm to 1600mm, other than a few more evenly spaced out screws. Hoping not too heavy for the wall, but am thinking 6 screws should do it? Currently have 3 in th 800mm
  3. Any advice as to which towel rail to go for? I literally have no idea in the difference in quality between say one from wickes and Victorian plumbing. Any advice appreciated
  4. Yeah I’ve accepted it. £190 plus vat for a couple hrs work feels fine to me.
  5. I mean they literally said a half day job but there you go.
  6. So the £500 quoted is a nonsense given it’s a max half a day job?
  7. I get all that but you’re not buying new tools for every job. I’m an accountant, I understand how fixed asset purchases, income and expenses work. anyway, I’m not here for an argument I simply came for advice. So far around £500 has been mooted, which I find excessive. Interested to hear other views.
  8. I don’t think so, was done about 7 years ago but I can see your point about colour matching to fill it if needs be. I’m probably being a bit picky!
  9. Ah yea, got you. So essentially they should be able to be used on any towel rail so I can simply use those fixings in the same place (plus some at the top) on a larger towel rail?
  10. Where did I say it was easy for a layman? For a pro it is a very easy job. And that isn’t me saying that, all 3 people I had to quote said it’s an easy job.
  11. Tools and ladders all already on the van, picking up materials takes 10 mins. £500 for say 3 hours? Around £150 an hour excluding materials, seriously?
  12. Similar to this https://www.screwfix.com/p/felt-support-tray-5-pack/36622?tc=PB4&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpKHIsY6TggMVaI1QBh3EdQE4EAQYASABEgLO7_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Guttering is a tad lower than the roof tiles on one side of the back of the house, nothing major but enough to create a gap which results in leakage during rainfall. I’d estimate it’s 2-3m worth needed. Just getting some quotes and wondering what you think is reasonable. I’m in the south west, would assume it’s a 2 hour job and £30-40 of materials so much more than £150 feels high? However I appreciate it’s a small job so will feel more expensive on an hourly basis.
  13. Current one is leaking and is only a half size one so not bothered about fixing as bed a bigger one anyway, however am really struggling to find a large one which will have the same fixings as the current one as don’t want to be left with exposed holes in the tiles that have been filled. Any ideas?
  14. Thanks. What would you do as first steps to diagnose?
  15. There used to be a concrete patio outside that door, higher than it is now. It is now hardcore decorative stone, at a lower level with better drainage so I’d be surprised if it is that but it certainly looks like it.
  16. Just noticed this by our back patio doors, seems to have come on quite quickly. Looks a bit odd as it is only in that area of the floor. As it happens it’s the area of the floor we had to take up to replace rotting joints last year, so it’s clearly connected. Seems odd that it would have become damp enough to rot in that time though.
  17. Nothing to do with the graft, it’s just (expletive deleted)ing time consuming and tedious. I enjoy the workout element!
  18. Well I’m almost there. Jesus Christ levelling is an utterly tortuous task!
  19. Yeah I’ve done much more in the past - shifted 35 tonnes of soil in lockdown to prep the patio area!
  20. Ha they won’t sling it over the edge, site in the garden is 150ft from the road!!
  21. Ah I may have underestimated how much I need.
  22. Thanks how about this? https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjuxpbs1bX_AhUIvO0KHWO6BXQYABAQGgJkZw&ohost=www.google.co.uk&cid=CAASJORoAgePyIpK4smjtboLU7KnOibc7taIDOHTXiPDtIE_zpkdaA&sig=AOD64_1YxW2ZDB9HvC_NCtDdy2d5lqcRSA&ctype=46&q=&ved=2ahUKEwip-ZDs1bX_AhVHRkEAHUCsDT0QzzkoAHoECAQQFg&nis=8&adurl=
  23. How long should it take to compact with a 320mm wacker plate? Worth going for a 400mm one?
  24. How would it lift and go everywhere if it’s underneath the shed and base?
