Surely it’s the DNOs responsibility to make sure any connection is safe (as far as the network is concerned) and personal safety (home and people) the home owners responsibility, insurance compatible. I am a believer in tested and compliant kit (kite mark.?) but not big brother making things unaffordable. If I were to have PV I would like to install it myself but not adverse to a “sign off/inspection by a qualified person at a reasonable cost.

Well a couple of fruitful days and mostly finished, pottering to do with facia,s and eves etc and roof shingles, could not have done it without my Team, my mate and his wife who both worked very hard. Just need to talk to garage door people about what to buy but I think an ordinary up and over will be fine for what I want.

Nothing is treated apart from the base plate (which I also inserted to the plastic battens. Yes I have the wood treatment ready and compressor etc to spray it (so it goes into all the joints). But i will be brushing an additional coat on the cut ends first. I am thinking of using flooring varnish on the inside 🤷♂️.

Tiredness stop play today and off to the Indian for some din dins but pleased with progress, some joints needed altering a bit (good job woodwork is my thing!!!!
-
Well that put a jinx on it….raining now 🤯
-
My team, yes some joints need a little “modification” and some warping but timber is “natural” so it’s going to move a bit. Hopefully weather tight this weekend 🤞
-
They are fixed at the bottom and cover strips either side and top allow the “logs” to shrink, there will be a 35mm gap at the top of both to allow this (I will do you a diagram later, tea break in progress 👍).
-
I find that strange (if all the other bits are done right). Why do you say that? I agree that dot and dab has moved on (if done correctly). I personally don’t like the “feel” (hollow when tapped).
-
No clips for the doors!!! Must be different to your previous “cabin”.
-
Ha, trying to keep it all dry during the recent rains I placed the roof trusses on to keep the tarp up.

I do the same 🤷♂️ why waste heat?

Brilliant place, well done you (jealous emoji,,)

With mine I had brick cills laid by the bricklayer and mounted the windows on the back of the bricks (check reveals ) with a neoprene gasket between frame and brick. The other advantage of this is you don’t have to fiddle the windows into an opening, mine overlapped by about 15mm. 👍

Yes, I wanted my MVHR up there and it’s usage as storage.
-
Periphery insulation and extending cavity insulation down to the foundation. Windows sat in cavity as much as possible, tape joins. Two separate lintels in each leaf (brick and block only) Warm roof and insulation continues from cavity into roof . Few or None, unless down through an insulated slab and if unavoidable insulated to death.
-
Yes all bricks, luckily my “wet” side was west so sun and wind will dry quickly, I guess wet north side will discolour due to lack of UV.
-
Well I used a similar product on my west facing wall not far from the Atlantic as the bricks were sodden right through (noticed when I core drilled fir my ASHP). Dead easy to apply and rain ran off it like glass afterwards 👍.

With my bifolds (not quite 3.8m) I used two concrete lintels, one in each leaf and cut brick slips to stick to the outside lintel, you would never see they were slips and no thermal bridging at all 👍 -
Timber framed VS SIP build.

As I stated sonewhere I wish I had double boarded and used sound bars, very good sound attenuation I have read. -
I built with 200mm cavity and full fill batt insulation, concrete lintel on internal leaf and brick arches on external (which could be another concrete lintel) dead cheap and good result.

I disagree, fibre glass is bullet proof if laid properly (how many boats are made of the stuff?). You say it was laid over a year ago, it would have leaked long ago if not laid properly.
