Really helpful, thank you! We have gas bottled installed (LPG) but no certificate... Will contact the guy again. We have no hand rail on the stairs so suppose we should get that sorted! Thanks again. Joanna -

Hey ProDave, Do you know what certificates you need for a temporary habitation certificate? We are looking for this now... we have the heat pump MSC, working bathrooms and kitchen, it's all as good as safe, but the electrics are not complete. We do have one of those safe switchboards though, can't remember what it's called, but it default trips often. -
Hey BuildHub! We are building a barn house in Glasgow - Maryhill. We have been onsite throughout lockdown with my husband and his colleague doing carpentry on our Doug Fir frame for the last 3-4 months. We are raising the barn in a few weeks (1st week of June). Grand Designs are coming to film us - the pressure is on! We had planned to do the stick framing/OSB on the outside of the structural wooden frame ourselves but the lads are getting KNACKERED and we wondered if there are local builders who could give us a quote for the packers/sticks/OSB wrap ASAP? Please DM me if this is you - or you know someone - we have a full set of drawings and just for our warrant signed off, finally. We are practicing social distancing onsite (currently it's just a workshop) but the space is large, outdoors, and the police are happy with our set up. Thanks and hope to chat soon. Joanna

Wood Fibre Insulation - Pavaflex/Pavatherm

The OSB provides the airtightness. There isn't any requirement for a membrane with our insulation... Attaching PDF with full details here. Board & baton larch cladding on the outside. Like the attached image... Timber_frame_techincal_manual.pdf- 20 replies

Wood Fibre Insulation - Pavaflex/Pavatherm
Joanna Susskind replied to Joanna Susskind's topic in Introduce Yourself
Nothing so different - but why must we change? We want to use natural materials and we love the qualities of the wood fibre. We're making the Douglas Fir frame of the house ourselves (using hand tools) right now onsite! Our project is the first of it's kind in Scotland - right in Glasgow City Centre. We are the first of 6 builders to start and someone has already commissioned us to build another house exactly like ours on one of the Scottish Western Isles! This is our dream, so we want to stick to the plan, if we can. We have budgeted for the wood fibre and would like to be able to use it. Ideally we want to avoid rock wool and Kingspan as they aren't nice to work with, and we are installing everything ourselves.- 20 replies

Wood Fibre Insulation - Pavaflex/Pavatherm
Joanna Susskind replied to Joanna Susskind's topic in Introduce Yourself
It's not that, but everything about our design is around the size of the pavatex and pavatherm wall build up. So we would need to find an exact match and adjust our whole plan if we change the materials now.... Plus we want to use the wood fibre! Just looking for a good supplier.- 20 replies

Wood Fibre Insulation - Pavaflex/Pavatherm
Joanna Susskind replied to Joanna Susskind's topic in Introduce Yourself
Everything is specced and we're doing it ourselves, so I'm not sure as my husband and crew have never done that before - the wood fibre has been submitted to BC too, and dictates our wall build up - also fully specced... so I'm not sure! will look in to it though, thanks- 20 replies

Did you go ahead with this build up? Similar to ours! I'm currently looking to source Pavaflex & Pavatherm somewhere cheaply - any names/leads/advice? Thanks!

Hey Dave, where did you buy the Frametherm? Also where were you planning to source the Pavatherm? Thanks! -
Hey everyone. I am on the case trying to find a good reasonably priced source for Pavaflex/Pavatherm - can anyone advise? We've found some online that would be shipped from afar. Our house is 150sqm and the cost is currently sitting around about 13k-15k for the insulation. Would love to be able to shave some off that... We have quite strict planning conditions and our wall build up all relies on this product, so there's no option to change the material (before anyone suggests we use Kingspan!) Any advice on sourcing this and installing it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Joanna

First Self Builders on Pilot Scheme in Glasgow!
Joanna Susskind replied to Joanna Susskind's topic in Introduce Yourself
Thanks @SuperJohnG! We have actually heard from Fleming to say they can't help us now since we've already started on our carpentry.... Which was a shame! But I think they are used to working with Carpenter Oak and Oakwrights where they have a lot more flexiblity, money and time, than us. We sadly lost our site caravan to a fire a few weeks back, then our marquee to the storm! So many set backs!!! But the guys are onsite building again now. I am on the case trying to find a good reasonably priced source for Pavaflex/Pavatherm so if anyone can advise, please do! Thanks all. Joanna p.s. What's your Instagram name?- 26 replies

Hey everyone. We are building on Bantaskin Street in Maryhill, Glasgow. Foundations complete and we are now working on the frame onsite. One of our build requirements (via Glasgow City Council who have initiated this project) is that we meet the "Silver Active" energy efficiency rating. Our architect has specced a whole bunch of things for us and we have the certificate. I spoke to him and asked about changing things/moving things around, and how to check whether or not we would still meet Silver Active and he wasn't very helpful. Does anyone know more about this? I'm thinking we should remove 5 PV panels, which might not do a huge amount in grey Glasgow, (but cost a fortune!) and try to come up with something more clever? We are hands on, and working with a small budget, so want to be creative and innovative here if possible. Ideas and thoughts welcome! Thanks Joanna

First Self Builders on Pilot Scheme in Glasgow!
Joanna Susskind replied to Joanna Susskind's topic in Introduce Yourself
Yes, that's us! We are the only ones who have started on the street. No sign of movement on the other 5 yet. The marquee is for doing all our carpentry. 12 cubic metres of Douglas Fir arrived onsite this week! We'll be in the tent marking out and making all the joints for the frame for the next 8-10 weeks. My husband Ben and his friend Craig will be there most days - do pop on by. We're hoping to do the stick framing and insulation afterwards ourselves, but have quite a reasonable quote from Fleming Homes to do the lot. Any advice on that anyone? Thank you!- 26 replies

Hey, so we had a friend looking after our SER etc, but she isn't managing to do the work quick enough on the side of her job, so we're now chatting to David Narro - would love any recommendations in Glasgow if you have any! We dug our own test pits a few months back, but GCC did quite an extensive contamination report. The house is designed just like a barn, yes. Feels a bit like a ranch here already with dogs, cats, deer, frogs, foxes... All in the city! The glazing faces south, towards the canal, yes- 26 replies

@Tennentslager I love this part of the city... just outside, but still close. My husband says the diggers are away from over the road, they're basically finished... That would have been a great shout though!!- 26 replies
