PS. The product itself isn’t that expensive. What costs the most is the fabrication as it’s so hard it needs specialist tooling. You need to find a fabricator who is experienced with Dekton as it’s easy to get it wrong … apparently

Hi @wozza Yes, the hob is recessed. The company who measured and installed the worktop took it away to make sure it was a perfect fit when they did the fabrication. Our worktop is 20mm Dekton. It’s a composite of quartz, glass and porcelain and is so incredibly hard wearing. You can put pans straight from the oven on it, use it like a chopping board (but don’t use knives made from the same material as it will damage both the worktop and knife), and it’ll take any product on it. When we first saw it we had a demo of it having red nail varnish poured on it, left for a few moments and clean wiped off with a piece of kitchen roll! Pic of the edging … Oh, and thanks for the tip about the paper. I’m presuming parchment paper will be sufficient.

Thanks for all the replies to my plight. I’m trying to get over myself and just use the blinkin’ thing, but for now while we’re opening boxes and have so much crap around I’m covering it between uses. Sorry, use, not plural! Only used it once so far!! Some pictures of the thing of beauty that it is at the moment. I’m lining the base of the kitchen and utility cupboards with a specific felt liner for the job, and while unfurling and letting it lay flat before cutting to shape it’s making a great cover!

She who must be obeyed!! ?

A week? Oh my days!! I’m hyperventilating already!! ?

Absolutely agree! Reminds me of the story of a lady who had the most beautiful set of expensive lingerie with petticoats, the lot. She kept it in her drawer and just looked at it. Her husband kept asking when she was going to wear it and her reply was that she was saving it for a ‘special occasion’. That occasion never seemed to happen … and then she died suddenly, so never got to enjoy the luxury of her very expensive and very beautiful purchase. He ended up burying her in it. Sad! Wear the lingerie. Use the hob. Don’t save things ‘for best, or special occasions’ as we never know when our time is up! Wanted to hear from anyone who has the Bora and has used it. Does it scratch easily? Either way it’s too late as it’s in and so will we be, just wanted to know really! Thanks for your reply ??

We are transitioning from the static to the house this weekend and I’m scared to death of putting anything on the hob. I have had it covered with a towel and then cardboard to keep trades from putting their tools on it, but what about general use? When it’s not on it’ll be part of my worktop. Was this a huge mistake? Being scared to use the perfect kitchen and perfect bathroom is a real thing!! Who knew?!

We have doors! All those months of choosing were worth it. So happy with them! Especially love the magnetic catches ?
-
Thank you! We will try them ?

When you’re finished and ready to move in, who did you get your house insurance with? We’re finding the non-standard build structure is causing a few issues ~ like highly inflated costs! TIA.

Great, thanks Craig ?

Hi Craig Did you receive my message?
-
Thanks Craig. I’ve replied now.

Thanks Craig. We are based in the South East.

Hello everyone. Thanks for all your replies, and apologies for the radio silence. We’ve been in touch with a construction law solicitor and will go that route if we don’t hear back from the company within the timelines we’ve asked them to. @craig are you an inspector? Where are you based?

Good morning. Resurrecting an old post as we are at the decking stage. We’re considering Millboard but the cost has got to be taken into consideration. Alternative is Trex but don’t like seeing some negative comments about it. Has anyone installed either product? Any problems? Happy with your choice? This is our forever home so it’s got to last. Don’t want to be redoing in 10/15/20 years time. Will either product last that long?

Has anyone had an issue with sliding doors to contend with? We have 3, and there are problems with each of them. They were installed last summer and they weren’t right from the day they were installed. We have gone back to our builders time and time again and they’ve insisted it’s a manufacturing problem. The manufacturers have insisted it’s an installation issue. We’ve had an assessor out and he said the same - installation issue. Today we heard back from the technical department from the manufacturers after they’ve seen the report and photos with the list of issues. They’ve confirmed it’s poor installation that caused all the problems. We have never had access to this report sadly. How did you address this if you’ve been through similar? The builders have sent 2 guys out twice and the issues are still not resolved. Advice would be appreciated before we go in with our size 9s. Many thanks!

Oh yikes ? That’s not good news. Sorry to hear that. We went to a showroom on Friday and still love the Dekton. Thanks for the warning about thicknesses. We would have preferred 30mm over 20mm so will definitely go for a the 20. Hope your replacement doesn’t cause too many issues. Just thinking about it - the place we went to guarantee Dekton for 20 years. Did you get a guarantee with your installation?

We ended up taping every join on every board, VCL on every single exterior SIP and that taped as well. Our prelim airtightness test result was 2.65 before boarding. We fully expect to be <1 when we’re complete. Well worth the time and expense of taping IMHO. Have to say the taping and VCL seems like a lifetime ago now though!

We had corian worktop one time and never had any staining issues either. The advantage was it is very light and as it was in a motorhome, weight was an issue.
-
Sorry, my bad. Our choices are Dekton, quartz and silestone. Didn’t mean corian! I’ve just remembered a worktop we saw at a showroom over a year ago and looked it up. It’s marble. Have messaged the company as it’s really nice.
-
Thanks both. Not having the colour through to the edge was an issue for me too ... but now they have coloured edges so it’s no longer applicable. At least that what we’ve been told. The alternatives are quartz or corian and we’ve not been able to find one in either product we like.
-
Hello Has anyone installed Dekton worktops in their kitchens? Which one did you go for, and are you happy with it? We’ve heard really good things about it and want to check it’s worth the extra £££s before splashing out. Thanks!

It was one of the two million decisions that needed to be made! Someone nearly put me off by mentioning seeing dust all the time, then I remembered we used to have black window boards with black frames and they didn’t show the dust any more than white ones did. Very happy with our decision ☺️

Coming back to show you one of the window boards that’s been painted anthracite to match the windows.
