One last thing we may do is add a triangular cut of oak sleeper as the levels drop down to soften the look of the RSJ What do others think?

Ground work more or less complete bar building up the ramp in the corner to allow me to get the mower up Top soil to add to the planters and garden behind the retaining wall and a small amount of turf to feather in to the lawn All levels are ready for paving to go down Fingers crossed in about 2 weeks! Very pleased with the work

My friend is doing it as owns a ground work company He is mega fussy the same as me which is great! I sketched out what I wanted then we have just tweaked it along the way (he has sorted all materials apart from lighting) There is still a flower bed to form with oak around the stairs and main retaining wall then carry the sleepers down the far side of the house There is probably about 85m2 of limestone to lay (slabs are £38m2) Looking to bring it in around the 20-22k mark not including muck away (had 2 lorry’s so far!)

Sleepers now complete I volunteered to drill the 25mm holes for the lighting to save time, not the best of jobs and bad back in the morning! Also run all the wires between the DPM and the sleepers and added ducting to take the loom round the steps

It’s having a DPM across the back of them Will drill out the sleepers for the lights then back fill I think

Last of the RSJ’s going in then oak sleepers Wednesday Just got to decide what level the lights are going to be recessed in to the sleepers at

Also has anyone had a bespoke wiring harness made before? can’t really see anything g off the shelf that is going to work with our lay out

Afternoon all, Another question if anyone has experience I’m looking to use recessed lights in my sleeper retaining wall The wall will be 3 sleepers high, for ease of any issues I’m thinking I should install the lights in the top course of sleepers to keep things accessible? The retaining wall is opposite the kitchen and lounge which both have bi-folds. If I go with a standard type spot light with a 3000k- warm white LED do you think this would cause glare and be too bright? Other option is I use a down lighter which would look nice but guessing won’t light up much of the actual patio space?

All sorted Had an issue with one of the posts so had all the other ones replaced how I wanted The one installed will remain and will use the same style at the other end then tie the sleeper flower bed in by notching the end of the first sleeper like below

It’s not so bad in that orientation but thinking it will look odd when they are the opposite way round for the steps in the middle of the wall as it will skew/ offset everything Will ask in the morning if there was a reason as only one cemented in so far It will really bug me i think Got 6 of them and non refundable I think 😂
