Solve a disagreement I’m having with my brother in law- nearby plots we’re watching being developed. X is a house already started and I think at wind and watertight. Next plot is down a slope and they have dug out to level the ground which looks like it’s leaving X in a rather precarious position, there’s no more than 6 feet between the already constructed house and the dug out land for the next house, two separate self builds, I am saying the one that has dug out will need to erect a retaining wall, brother in law says it will be the responsibility of X . I can’t see this being the case as he already had the house erected when the other party started to dig. What are your thoughts?

electricity connections Extortionate price
recoveringbuilder replied to recoveringbuilder's topic in Electrics - Other
We eventually got them down to just under £5k, we asked them to remove the pole that was on our land and they weren’t long in changing the price as long as we agreed the pole could stay! funnily enough the plots that were next to us are now getting all built on and none of the owners have been asked for anything over £3k! We did the ground work and they have benefited from it. -

Turned out the run off drains had blocked, I’ve just had them replaced yesterday, waiting on an electrician to come and look at the blower and see if it’s fused or needs replaced 🤷🏼♀️
-
Ok I’m sure his workmate will be able to do that 🤞
-
No theres no noise at all which is why I realised that it had stopped working. Who would I be looking at to fix it??

I have a Clearwater sewage treatment plant with blower, I just discovered yesterday that the blower has stopped working, it hasn’t tripped the power supply so what could be wrong? I’m waiting on one of hubbys workmates to come at the weekend and open the blower case but he admits he knows nothing about them, just can’t open it myself as the last time hubby opened it before he took ill there were mice inside it and that’s a no no to me!

Frozen pipes or an air lock?

How do I set these thermostats?
recoveringbuilder replied to recoveringbuilder's topic in Underfloor Heating
Ok so I’ve managed to set up the hub and it appears to be working fine although whether it’ll work when I’m away from home is another matter as this is the problem I have with my cctv, works fine while I’m at home but not when I’m away and I think it’s the phone that’s at fault. Anyway one question- I’ve screenshotted what I’m seeing in the app but I have no idea what I’m supposed to do with the three boxes at the top or what they’re for - auto- hold- standby? @Alan Ambrose -

I actually have the hub but have never been able to set it up , start reading the instructions and lose the will to live! And if the app on my phone was anything like the app I have for my CCTV- only works when I’m at home, I’ll give it a miss😩 -
How do I set these thermostats?
recoveringbuilder replied to recoveringbuilder's topic in Underfloor Heating
Absolute nightmare, we’ve never been able to work it properly and always had it at the99.5 hours which is workable when you’re at home but no good if you’re away. I have managed to do what@elite has said and put the frost setting up to 17degrees and put them onto frost setting so hopefully that will work, I’ve a few days to watch how it performs before I go away 🤞 -
How do I set these thermostats?

I could if I knew how, only thing I know how to do with them is the 99.5 hours! yes they are heatmiser neo stats , pain in the backside -
So I have these wireless thermostats in each room, this is not a new problem but I’m going to be going on holiday next weekend and would like to get this sorted out. I can set the desired temperature in each room by using the “hold” button but it only stays at the set temperature for a maximum of 99.5 hours after which it reverts to a temperature of 21 degrees and I have to reset it. I would like to go away and set each room to 18 degrees but obviously because I’m going away for more than 99.5 hours it’s going to revert to 21degrees, I just can’t get my head round why it does this, my son in law has suggested that the Ufh controller must be controlling this but I don’t know how to change it s

Frozen pipes or an air lock?
recoveringbuilder replied to recoveringbuilder's topic in General Plumbing
It was changed from a thermal store to a mega flow , tank is in the same place as it previously was. It thawed out no problem the next day but the pipes are above the kitchen ceiling and below the upstairs bedroom floor, I’m thinking I’ll get a hatch cut out in the bedroom floor to access the pipes as it looks like this is going to be a regular occurrence -
Frozen pipes or an air lock?

Another year and the same problem! Got up this morning to the exact same scenario, what I do find strange is that obviously the mega flow is full of water?? but it’s not coming out 😩 -
Whatever you do with your pot I’d get it well hidden! 14 months since my husband had his brain haemorrhage and multiple complications he is no longer the man he was and therefore not able to come home. I now stand to lose half of the house we’ve worked all our lives to have. This house was going to be sold when we retired to give us an additional pension pot as we have no private pensions. I am now in the situation that with my half I’ll probably need to buy something like an ex council house to give me extra cash to live in my retirement. This is something neither of us foresaw and it makes me so angry to think we’ve really worked for nothing, if we’d stayed in a council house all our lives and had no assets his care would have been paid for!

Just as an update, I haven’t been on the site for many months. My husband is still hospitalised albeit he is now in a brain rehabilitation facility. How I’ve survived this period in my life I don’t know, it will soon be a year. Sadly he has no memory of building this house and although I have been bringing him home for a few hours at the weekends he has very few memories of the last 5 years. Funnily enough he does remember building the last house 15 years ago! I don’t know what will happen but sadly I don’t think there’ll ever be another self build.

Still on my own here 20 weeks later, hubby still critically ill and no signs of getting any better. That’s a whole other story.! some of the zones in my ufh are not opening when heat is called for, had a flying visit from heating engineer a few weeks ago who opened up a couple of them manually for me to enable heat into two of the rooms when another zone calls for heat which has been fine so far but it’s annoying me. I unscrewed them all today and made sure the pin wasn’t seized on the tops but it hasn’t made any difference, the heating guy thought the controller had stopped working, can probably get someone to come and replace but just wanted to check if you all thought this could be correct

Does anyone have any knowledge of this app. We had our security cameras installed in March 2020 , they’re not connected via an hdmi cable to anything and we just viewed them from this app, there’s been a few issues for a while with “connection failed” which I could usually sort out by cutting the power to the box then switching back on however the last few days it’s been saying incorrect username or password, I’ve never had a username or password! It’s driving me crazy! I did think about uninstalling the app and installing again but it needs a qr code which I don’t know how to access, the box is in the loft so being here alone I can’t get access to it, any idea?

Ok I give in I have finally flipped my lid after 12 weeks of dealing with this house on my own. My friend just came in and I marched her upstairs to hear the noise only to discover that my battery operated toothbrush had somehow got switched on and was vibrating!! This is what happens when your just waiting on the next disaster 🤣
-
Yes it makes the noise when the tap is turned off, still has a flow of water and no pump in the system! I can’t believe I have yet another problem to deal with

This is my upstairs ensuite wash basin , ran the tap this morning and this noise is coming from somewhere . Turn your sound on IMG_3562.MOV
