  1. Hi, I bought this 10m Ultraflex 904 and it was fitted by the roofers. I cut off about 1 meter but the next day the liner slid by about 40-50cm. I don't want to cut another 40-50 cm in case it disconnected from the top. Can it disconnect from the cowl and stay in the chimney? This is pretty stiff liner but it's also heavier than standard 316.
  2. Ok I got the 904 Ultraflex fitted I cut off about 1m of it to fit the adaptor while I wiggled it it went down by about 40cm. How do I know that it didn't disconnected from the top? It's not a straight chimney but a bend or even two. I wasn't pulling it. I am not going to cut another bit then to find out it disconnected and now it's too short. This 904 is quite stiff, hard to work with. Tomorrow I am going to fly a drone next to the chimney pot to see if I can see anything.
  3. On the other side it is neighbour's gas heater inside his chimney breast so not sure how does this look inside. The roof and chimney has been fixed now so there should be no more water getting in from above.
  4. Hi Everyone, I have these on the chimney part wall. When I knock on it it sounds hollow comparing to the plaster above. Should I just remove and put some new plaster? Is this penetrating dump from the ground or from the leaky chimney? Best regards
  5. Ok, thank you. Yes so the number I used is correct 1024hPa
  6. Where can you see the pressure on WeatherUnderground? I see Pressure but it's given as 30.27 in From https://www.forecast.co.uk/pressure/ it's 1025 Absolute humidity, kg/m3 - 0.008 (outside) Absolute humidity, kg/m3 - 0.009 (downstairs) Absolute humidity, kg/m3 - 0.011 (room 1 upstairs) Absolute humidity, kg/m3 - 0.010 (room 2 upstairs)
  7. Ok, thank you for your replies. I have 4 measurements at the moment: 18.9C 51% (downstairs) 19.2C 53% (upstairs, room1) 17.6C 65% (upstairs, room2 but an opened window - some cold air and humidity is coming in, outside it's 12.3C 79%)
  8. One of the sensors was on the window sill the other is a bit further away from window (2nd room). I reckon moisture level is higher closer to the window where vapour likes to condensate. I put both on the floor away from windows. Will see if there is any big difference.
  9. In my case there is no baths for a couple of days and even then the window is opened to let the excess moisture out. I have lived in a flat before so not sure how this works. Is it possible the moisture makes its way upstairs and there always be that discrepancy? I have 4 temp/humidity sensors, 1 downstairs, 2 upstairs (2 different rooms) and one outside (North side). Two sensors upstairs are off by about 3% (59% and 62% respectively). I have the display in front of me so my readings are regular not just one off. I was just wondering if there is any of the sub floor heating or water pipes slowly dripping maybe? I have not seen any wet patches anywhere but if the rate is slow enough the sub floor dust absorbs it.
  10. Let's say there is a moisture barrier under the concrete already. Isn't that detrimental to the concrete floor if you put another? I mean then it is expected for moisture to collect in between the barriers. I am going to tape a bigger sheet of DPM to the concrete with a temp and humidity sensor under to see if there is any variation. I think I put a black DPM then the XPS. I read that 1 inch of XPS is considered to be vapor semi-permeable, while 2 inches is considered to be vapor semi-impermeable. What XPS should I go for? How thick 6 or 10mm? What 10mm fibre should I use? https://flooringwarehousedirect.co.uk/product/qa-breathe-natural-fibre-10mm-underlay-15m2-roll/ but I reckon I still need to put 5mm Fibreboard Laminate boards on top as the laminate click is likely to disengage on softer underlay.
  11. Interesting it says it's automatic without any electrical or mechanical power.
  12. I am a bit baffled why there is almost 10% higher humidity upstairs than downstairs? I know there is a bathroom but it has not been used while I measure the humidity.
  13. Hi Nick, these trickle vents have no control, fully open all the time. I know what you mean however a single person at 84sqm does not cause that much condensation.
  14. Hi, I have moved to a property that has ALL windows with trickle vents. On top of a wide ventilator in the kitchen and a smaller in the bathroom there is also an air brick in the living room for the old gas burner (removed long time ago). This and the trickle vents on all 9 windows makes the draft like in a dog's shed. I think dog's shed is actually better. I have already blocked the air brick but I have to address these trickle vents. Before these windows are going to be replaced in a year or two I have to stop the draft. Duct tape gives me mixed result because the small gap between the trickle vent cover plastic and windows frame is still leaking some air x9. These Slotvent trickle vents cannot be removed. These are screwed in and I cannot remove the screw caps. Should I just destroy these screw caps, remove the vents on both sides and duct tape holes on both sides and put the trickle vents back in OR instead put some expanding foam into the holes in the window frame through the intake of the trickle vent? Let me know what you think
  15. I am still looking for the right underlayment to put on the concrete. I have 32mm gap between the concrete floor and doors. and 25mm in the other room (both concrete). I reckon there is a DPM under the concrete as the humidity at ground level hasn't changed, it's stays at 50% but anyway most of these underlayment comes with DPM anyway. I was looking into this: 3mm https://www.factory-direct-flooring.co.uk/pro-gold-underlay-vapour-barrier 5mm Sonic Gold https://www.amazon.co.uk/Royale-Comfort-Underlay-Laminate-Flooring/dp/B00EZMY36G/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=sonic+gold+underlay&qid=1665958023&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIzLjg1IiwicXNhIjoiMy4wOSIsInFzcCI6IjMuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=sonic+gold+un%2Caps%2C94&sr=8-5 6mm https://www.amazon.co.uk/Underlay-Thermal-Insulation-Underfloor-Heating/dp/B07HPD2TBB/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=insulating%2Bunderlay&qid=1665956825&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIzLjkxIiwicXNhIjoiMi45OCIsInFzcCI6IjAuOTIifQ%3D%3D&s=diy&sprefix=insulating%2Bunder%2Cdiy%2C74&sr=1-4&th=1 10mm (I reckon this is only for the carpet not laminate) https://www.amazon.co.uk/10mm-Thick-Insulation-Carpet-Underlay/dp/B00EZMXOWK/ref=sr_1_20?keywords=insulating+underlay&qid=1665956825&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIzLjkxIiwicXNhIjoiMi45OCIsInFzcCI6IjAuOTIifQ%3D%3D&s=diy&sprefix=insulating+under%2Cdiy%2C74&sr=1-20 I reckon there is no thicker underlayment for laminate than 5mm. Sonic Gold has very good reviews. I reckon I don't need wood fibre boards for this just the sonic gold. Please let me know if there are any better options or if I am on the right track. I am back as I want to do the downstairs and have to decide on the underlayment I put on the concrete.
  16. The chimney is there, it's just that above second floor there is a temperature drop in a chimney that is inside not outside the building (part wall).
  17. I want to resurrect this topic just before the liner installation. I have taken vermiculate into consideration however because the chimney is on a party wall the temperature in the chimney won't be that low to cause condensation and tar build up. However I was thinking about part of the chimney from the loft to the top. Would it make sense to at least cover the liner in this Rockwool insulation on the last 4-5 meters where the chimney is getting cold? The chimney twists so the insulation would sit on it's own on the first bend. What do you think?
  18. what do you think about these IBC covers on eBay? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125196937973?hash=item1d2651aaf5:g:X8YAAOSwMtJiLDcQ&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4J28Q2gIVQXTpVngJWFNq%2FE8Zcy1Vmhqb3cFD6BzA%2Bx2lOkgPdpacHxGqzwdG6LGC0q%2FgXgqN7lR4SA9xDPAB5P2oOF%2FFEc9myuMbAGY26qP8D%2B9pS%2Bw7skC1Ofe4HzFVj9kKSnW4JxVehi5%2F4WdFsZdy0e7jIWDdJix3cdwj3oMtt6crE3r9%2FBHIgY5DtTLwmzswA7WlwzAD3CvheME5d99oxve2yONUN9trOnUhWkvHl4YWmjTS8aMNNIRoMsccC6%2F3kfSBOjOgHjqQDPmWlRdjmd4thkD5QMl9TQ9T70D|tkp%3ABFBMrOKM3-hg
  19. I have black IBC tanks I just wasn't convinced if the black plastic does the job in terms of extending the life of the IBC tanks significantly e.g. double it, I know it works for algae. Because if black colour extends the lifespan of an IBC tank e.g. by 2 years only maybe it's better to wrap it in black DPM. Ideally to keep them indoors but I don't have a space and a tall enough shed to keep inside two IBC tanks stacked.
  20. Hi again Gents, I have the IBC totes and I bought them black. My new (perhaps silly) question is should I wrap it in a black plastic anyway? e.g. to prevent sun from deteriorating the container over time. I reckon sun does not mind if it's white or black. I can be wrong but I ca imagine that since it's black it absorbs more of the rays and deteriorates quicker thank white one that reflects some of it. I have a 1000 gauge DPM I could wrap it in perhaps too thick for the task but decided to ask first as it may be pointless. Cheers
  21. Hi All, I was going to ask you about acclimatisation. The vendor says 48h but on YT the same vendor also says about the need to have radiant heating ON during acclimatisation. I don't have the heating turned on in the house at the moment but should I do it before and during the installation? In my case 7-8mm thick laminate floorboards. What is the exact reason behind this process? Is this the temperature, humidity or both? Without heating the humidity is relatively high 60-65%. If I turn the heating on the humidity will drop and the boards will start shrinking. I reckon I want to find a sweet spot otherwise it's going to be detrimental either in Winter or in Summer. Thanks
  22. Hi All, I bought that solvent based paint from Dulux to paint the doors. As I could expect the smell is awful so I moved the painting outside the building as painting inside even in well ventilated room does not work to my liking, the smell follows you for hours. How long should I leave these doors outside for the paint to lose it's smell / harmful properties? I reckon we are talking days. I already bought water based paint to use for skirting and door frames as this will make the property inhabitable for days. Thanks
  23. Hi again, Can I attach tiles to a painted wall / plasterboard? Cheers
  24. The ones I was thinking about: https://www.factory-direct-flooring.co.uk/prestige-8mm-castle-oak-ac4-laminate https://www.factory-direct-flooring.co.uk/prestige-natur-oak-7mm-v-groove-click-laminate-flooring-3903 https://www.factory-direct-flooring.co.uk/prestige-7mm-spirit-oak-nature-laminate-flooring-3125 The thickest they have is 12mm and it's rated for 25 years, heavy domestic use https://www.woodfloorwarehouse.co.uk/oxford-oak-grey-brown https://www.woodfloorwarehouse.co.uk/natural-charlotte-oak https://www.woodfloorwarehouse.co.uk/achensee-oak but again it turned out more expensive. Floor King has this one I like but again this has to be ordered from the same supplier otherwise I lose on deliveries: https://www.flooringking.co.uk/shop/laminate-flooring/cfs-lam/cfs-supernatural-classic-8mm-harlech-oak/
  25. 8mm - heavy use - 20 years domestic use (living room, higher traffic areas) 7mm - medium use - 15 years domestic use (bed rooms) The Costco ones are almost twice as thick. I checked the doors and on the ground floor and in the dining doom there is at least 18mm clearance and between 25 and 30mm in the living room. Upstairs it is at least 22mm clearance but I put the wood fibre underlay boards only. I could consider a much thicker boards downstairs. Wherever I read they say to put 5mm underlay boards but do I have to do it if laying thick 12mm+ boards and on concrete? I think I meant Factory Direct Flooring has the best deals IMHO https://www.factory-direct-flooring.co.uk Wood Floor Warehouse - is more expensive on smaller orders and the delivery is a bit pricey. They don't go under £60 on delivery
