  1. Has anyone ever usefld 2k based paints and primers ad I have bought this and planning to spray the kitchen.
  2. We have removed the wall paper as I could argue anymore with OH about it so gave in. She does not trust me that it would be rebuilt anytime soon 😀 as since when men over promise snd under deliver!
  3. I will try my luck putting on he Facebook market place or it will go in the skip. Do you know which episode was it of the grand design?
  4. It's already been sanded down plus I will be spraying myself. We will see how it turns out.😅
  5. Any thoughts on the electric fake stone fireplace. I got that given 🙂 plus a hand-knitted persian rug. Most of all they stuck by their words since last Sep while the probate was going through and let me buy it. Newly built house next door got sold for £2.5m. So I am really appreciative of them. Lovely people.
  6. We have hard move in date of 27th. This would just not be possible by then. Though its an attractive proposition but we can do it later as well if required.
  7. No. It belonged to the guy who passed away. He was director in nuclear research in one of the big corporations and was definitely able to afford one. I will ask if they still have it. They might have donated it.
  8. That would require atleast 10/15k of resources in terms of kitchen fit out which might have to be knocked down later for the rebuild. Is it still worth it?
  9. Yes I wanted that but i need to bear in mind the total remodel/build upward or total rebuild project and hence any money spent now might be just total waster down the line. Therefore keen to make good what we have and be inventive. 😀 these days TVs in bathroom and kitchen, lots of people (on principal) following the similar trend. There would be main dining table in the lounge plus a small dining table in the kitchen (may be) and given the floor plan it's a bit of trek from the kitchen 😅. Plus the most important advantage of keeping an eye on the kids in the lounge while cooking. What do you think?
  10. My plan was not to use it for its original purpose but to keep an eye on the kids in the living room while food is being cooked. Hence if there are ideas to modernise it. If it cannot be I will happily board over it as already spoken with the plasterer.
  11. I have not moved in yet so don't know about the functionality yet but I see all the point being valid.
  12. That was part of the plans as "may be" but guven I have major modelling /entire rebuild on the card after planning (might take a year or two as other project might take precedent) hence keen to keep low. Want to avoid cpst of new kitchen at the moment. Kitchen will be sprayed with acrylic wall panels or tile over tile in the kitchen.
  13. Thanks I happy to wait for a week 😀 to see the underlying reason. Just curious!
  14. Hi I have a kitchen hatch which with yiung family would probably seve useful purpose. Is there a way to upcycle it or do you think it should be just binned and covered up? Plastering starts next week so need to decide what to do with it before that. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Thanks. Pardon my ignorance. By plinth do you low wall on the right hand side (encircled above im yesterday message). By the way the vent is as circled in the image. Do you think it has any relationship with the fireplace. Once low wall is gone, it's gone, right? I might just end up creating work here in case there is some thing behind it. Plastering is book for the entire room for Wed next week and we have removed all the wall papar but still not sure about the low wall on the right hand side. Someone suggested to use the similar stones to create three sided (bottom/up/side) enclosure for the TV. We are planning to hang TV on the wall there in any case. The appetite is to do minimum but the most value added work (by value I don't mean £), I mean functionality/aesthetics etc.
  16. Yes thanks. I am planning to remove the right hand low wall to just leave the chimney. I like the stone chimney (being different from plain plaster these days), are stone built chimneys too dated? In terms of height, please see attached. The banglow was built in 1960. Also most of large room have a metal vent at the bottom of the wall which it appears can be switched on and off. Not sure if these were for the open fire place of hot air blower system installed in 1970s houses.
  17. These guys seems to have lots of stuff but they appear to be expensive. https://www.camelotrealfires.co.uk/fire-grate-fire-canopy
  18. Thanks. Assuming I don't want the hassle (in vase its signoficant or expensive) (plus given I might rebuild), is it still not worth having open fire place. I have lots of logs which potentially can be burnt. I realise it might be very inefficient 20-30% compared to stove 70-80% in terms of retaining heat, what could be other issues. If sand it down, paint it, buy grates, basket, dog irons etc and get the sweep done. Can it be made look pretty? Is carrying out work at the throat of the chimney significant work? What does it entail?
  19. Spot on...all the points Yes It's the typo. The rear ensuitr is actually either single room or study/office. On the overheating I won't go for the sky light. Not worth ad it get lots of sun anyways but on the plan just wanted to have the options. Thanks.
  20. Hi. The banglow we have recently completed on has a fire place (open) which is relatively small. I have booked a chimney sweep. Had a word with the guy selling stoves and he said to install a stove/logburner I will have to get rid entire stone chimney breast (which seemed to be a bit of BS) but he said I could use the fire place as is. It won't be efficient and oy 20% heating will stay ? Is that correct. What else could be done to this to make it look pretty / more efficient with out any structural work or great deal of structural work? Any d Advice would be greatly welcome.
  21. After quite a long break from the forum due to various circumstances I have returned with hope to get as before useful insights and share my experience. Starting with extension in conservation area, the application was withdrawn due to strong objection from conservation area officer. We met him on site afterwards and tried to built some rapport (did not work but after few iterations we manage to make him happy with the attached plan. His objection to add some features on the side wall (arched windows), reduce the size of side first floor extension, reduce the dormer from three to one and have timber styles garage door (behind which there would be a room) were all dealt with and resulted in the attached. Please let me know your thoughts if dormer would be worth it. What's your view view on the design and does all these extensions add value. Look forward to seeing insightful comments. 4031-02F.pdf
  22. Just to confirm is that total 1643+1113 total cost of tiling (labour only) or was total labour cost 1643 and you had to pay 1113 to others. If layers. Its seems very competitive. I was told one bathroom tiling labour cost was 1000.00
  23. Do people use MGO board for internal instead of plaster boards eliminating the need of were plaster and I heard it's a lot more solid so you can hang things on it without the need of timber joists at the back? I know price wise it's a bit expensive but if you take into account saving of wet plaster and flexibility for installing fittings on it, would it not still be sensible to use internally?
  24. I Ok I understand. My render was mostly on the bricks (I had to remove old pebbledash). For the cavity bay windows, I used wood wool board and K-Rend K1 silicon scratch finish (without the basecoat) and at some places e.g. around the dormer window I used stainless steel mesh. Both have worked, though I am not sure at all about the insulation properties of these.
