No, sounds pretty reasonable.  They charged us around £3,500 to move a pole, run a new underground cable around our site, and across the road to supply a neighbour's house, with us doing all the excavation and laying the ducting for them.

For comparison, current job has 3 new connections from the pavement, with 2 cables surface mounted on the front elevation and another brought into the basement flat underground.

Nearly £1900 with me doing all private excavation, backfill, drilling and transits, and them just pulling the cables in and mounting the new supply heads. They dug up about a M2 of pavement and Tarmac'd it back in. Half a day's work.

Another comparison this time with Northern Networks :  The mains cable runs from the pole mounted transformer (30 metres away) underground and parallel to our Northern boundary less than a metre from it. So to tee off from the main and dig 80cm (not a mistype) to our boundary wall where I've dug to from our side, and I've put a pipe in under the wall (so it doesn't fall down - its a drystone wall) then run their cable a total of 3 metres from the main in the trench I've dug to our meter cabinet (which is separate from our house and set into a retaining wall -( I run 2 sub mains from it, one to the house and one across to the garage/workshop) is £1350.  This is all in soil, no tarmac or paths. 8 weeks is good - I've been waiting 6 months now for them to start.

Western Power - dig down 450mm to expose your main, connect to the ducting as installed by me (no more than 300mm away) pull cable and terminate less than 2m away...

Road dig is an unmade road and I had to redo what they left as it sank ...

£1650 please ....
