Fallingditch
For the last two years, I have used a pair of 12v batteries and some 24v LEDs to provide power to some off-grid stables. Every now and again, I take the betteries home and charge them up. This setup has worked a treat My partner has to clip her horse's coat regularly. With a set of mains powered clippers - no problem. But since going off grid, and having bought a battery powered cordless clippers, they are not man enough for the job. So I'm thinking of going back to 240v clippers, and installing a 24vDC to 240VAC inverter. Thing is, there are a lot of inverters out there at a lot of different price points - can anyone advise me on what I need to be specifying here? Maybe even suggest some brands? PeterW
24v inverters are invariably found in truck supply stores as they are used by drivers for everything from kettles to TVs and microwaves - they are also cheap ! If it's only for the clippers and occasional use then any will do. I wouldn't pay out for an expensive one - quick eBay search and you'll find them for around £30 upward from UK sellers. If you have space on the roof then a solar panel will trickle charge a 12v battery with a cheap conditioner so may be worth putting the batteries in parallel and then just letting them charge at the stables ..? Nickfromwales
Small 'pocket' super silent generator? Can also be used for other tasks / charging so universal if the horse isn't phased by the slight noise of its running?

And where do you buy this stuff from?
