Ferdinand
Thinking of the current weather, can anyone recommend a secure way of holding a Velux Perhaps 50mm open when no one is home, or at night. Not a huge issue, but it is a little too close to next door’s carport roof for comfort. The window is a mid-pivot version. ProDave
If you are SURE it's not going to rain, pivot it all the way round as if you were going to clean the outside of the glass and put the bolt across. But if it rains like that.........
Ferdinand
I do not think mine can do that. They have this sort of mechanism: https://www.velux.co.uk/products/roof-windows/centre-pivot So if I shut them revers d the opening bar is on the outside. They can be held that way but not fixed. ProDave
It always used to be that if you rotated them all the way, there was a slide bolt in the top (that is now the bottom) that slides across to hold it there. I have not looked in detail at recent ones so they might have deleted that useful feature. Edit: Still there. From the Velux website To clean the outer pane, rotate the sash 180 degrees. The sash must be secured in position by sliding the barrel bolt into the bushing at the bottom of the side frame.

Will remove the several flower arrangements and take a look later.
