Yesterday at 18:041 day Setting out for bathroom tiling, what's the general consensus to avoid small tiles top or bottom? Split the difference between the 2, so in my case I'd have a 15cm depth tile top and bottom when the full tile is 25cm? That would be as the laser appears in the attached imageI could centre it at the flush to get a 19cm at the top but it's getting slim down at the bottom. If I went full tile at the top I'd be left with like a slither at the floor. 22 hours ago22 hr With hindsight I'd have dropped the ceiling a tad more and ended up with full tiles top to bottom.
22 hours ago22 hr Author SWMBO not into the tiles going vertically I'm afraid. Setting it out central to the flush gives me 17cm tile at the top, 13cm at the FFL. The units will cover the majority of this wall but it will be on display elsewhere.HOWEVER, further along at the window this works out pretty much perfectly to the head and reveal. Is this the lesser of 3 (or 4) evils? Carling for scale. Edited 22 hours ago22 hr by Super_Paulie
22 hours ago22 hr Would adding some skirting at the bottom help ?Are you tiling the shelf tops too or could you put a trim or counter top in there ?Sometimes a row of a different sized tile giving a horizontal feature can help.It is that dawning realisation that when you position the first tile you are fixing the position of every tile in the room ! uh-oh !I had to work it out for our bathroom tiled in 1 inch square mosaic tiles once. You are going to need a lot more beer, and a few hours on instagram, pinterest and Houzz.

Though I'm making a compromise with the WC flush becase the centre of the mirror / basin is more prominent. Edited 18 hours ago18 hr by Mike
8 hours ago8 hr My only advice would be to lay out where everything physically goes. I did the "right" thing with my tile layout, but I ended up with a grout line millimetres above the silicone around the bath, which isn't ideal and becomes a pain in the arse to keep clean! At some point I'm going to take it all out and lift the bath slightly so that it is below the silicone, but laying everything out accurately would have highlighted this in the beginning. It looks like you are doing this, but just in case anything is missing from the images or is an estimate rather than the actual fitting/furniture.

Just now1 min Author I think having the tiles centered to the bog flush offers more pros compared to other options. ProsCentral horizontal and vertical alignment to flush plate. Wall mounted taps are both within a single tile Lined up perfectly to fit my window headAlmost a full tile at actual ceiling heightConsPissy 13cm tile at floor levelSplitting the difference optionProsAesthetically pleasing, tile equally sized top and bottomWall mounted taps within a single tileConsSlither at window headSlither at actual ceilingOff center at flush, just enough to make it look like a cock upProbably just answered my own question really, think the 13cm bottom tile might be what to go for.
