October 14Oct 14 I keep seeing ads for EDF advertising 7 hours off peak eleccy for 6.66p/unit on an EV tariff. Anyone know if that rate is a new deal or been around for a bit?? Octopus have just hiked our 5 hour off peak Go rate to 9.4p/unit and EDF offer a penny a unit more for export so a move seems an obvious thing to do?
October 14Oct 14 I just changed to Octopus Agile export was on fixed before and the income so far is far greater, generally exporting battery at breakfast and tea time and get 20p+ per kWh. Sorry no electric vehicles here, so not sure about import

Sorry no electric vehicles here, so not sure about import The EV is the problem we have with agile as our charger isn't smart so we could end up charging at more expensive times. The wife isn't going to be tracking agile prices to know when to plug the car in! A mate is using Sigenergy AI in tandem with agile in and out and reckons he's making £70/month. Not sure how good eleccy trading is for battery longevity?? Until I realised that AI and agile weren't compatible with our EV charger I looked at the Solis AI tool and that factored in battery degradation cost in deciding whether to carry out a charge/discharge trade.
Wednesday at 14:495 days I wonder if there is an industry initiative to offer these low rates for BEV charging. It may get some chargers installed and targets hit, but has nothing to do with actually owning a BEV or PHEV.

Have a look and see if your charger works with it. They can also do other smart tariff that aren't octopus. Can give you a referral code to get a month's use after a 2 week trial. Wednesday at 18:235 days Author The EV charger is integrated with a solaredge inverter which Predbat doesn't seem to list as compatible. The solis is just for the battery. Even if I could automate the charger, I'm not sure agile would work for us as the only time the car is routinely plugged in is during the night which when I looked recently at agile rates seemed to be significantly more than the Go or EDF overnight rates.

More EVs equal more industry turnover so maybe the current cheap rates are a loss leader??
20 hours ago20 hr Just made the jump from Octopus Agile to EDF Go Electric. Have been on Agile for years and it has always worked out cheaper for us but the recent prices have been brutal. Luckily we have solar and battery so only just beginning to use the grid again (haven't used since solar installed in April) and not affected too much. The 7 hour window made the diffrence, will also be switching my export to EDF for 13p vs Octopus 12p....not much but every penny 🤷♀️
16 hours ago16 hr Author Have you managed to switch online to EDF export @13p?? I've tried to apply but only get offered 3p SEG rate. Their customer services reckon there should be the 13p option but there isn't for me!!
52 minutes ago52 min Just switched.Go tariff went live yesterday6.66p import from 23.00 to 6.00 which is useful as my car charger is currently only 4.8kw. I need to upgrade my wiring to get the full 7kwPreviously was briefly on the E7 tariff which was 14p.Seems like a no brainer compared with octopus.I wonder if EDF can keep their night rate low because they run the nuclear stations. They would have reliable surplus every night at a known cost whilst octopus etc would have to average their costs with some zero cost energy on a windy night and sometimes higher cost gas on a still night As an aside - for the geeks - I am experimenting with controlling my charger (a portable 32a "de charger" granny charger) so I can use surplus solar. It turns out a load of the smart granny chargers you see for sale at the mo use the "tuya" smart home system which you can control locally. So far I have been able to set the charging current and start/stop the charger over my local wireless network. I can also read the voltage/current/power delivered.Next step is to integrate it into my homebrew solar display unit to turn the charger on and set the appropriate current when there is enough surplus power
