Joining kitchen units together

When joining kitchen units together, is there a standard practice for placement of connectors.  I'll be putting one connector behind the back panel...

Any decent carpenter / kitchen installer will take the hinges off, clamp the units together exactly aligned, and then screw through with 30mm countersunk wood-screws (not the thru-connectors) so the hinges hide the screws.
 

Note: for 15mm carcasses use 25mm screws, and only use 30mm for 18mm.
