Ben100 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Hi all, After all the work we've done restoring this old place, it's time to do some restoration on the brickwork. We've got a mixture of some different bricks, blown bricks, discoloured bricks, and concrete pointing over lime mortar! Before I start the actual work, I'd like to get some advice and recommendations from anyone who's done this before. Also, can anyone recommend a company that does this kind of work in Essex? Thanks!
Russell griffiths Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I would start with getting the bricks replaced under those windows, it’s been incorrectly bonded.
garrymartin Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Was the roof height raised to get more internal height for ground and first floors, and the windows moved up? Has it been checked out, structurally?

And while you are doing this you could look at modifying or replacing the first floor cills. It is difficult to chase out cement mortar from soft bricks without damage. Do some research on what you want.
Russell griffiths Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Ffs the top floor windows are wrong as well. how can somebody have the knowledge to replace a lintel and not follow the brick bond. baffles me.
