CalvinHobbes Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago (edited) Forgive me for coming back at this, I asked before re a path around the rear of the house and patio area. Our planning says we need semi permeable. We have groundsman coming back tomorrow night. First time he came he said just use gravel and we didn't need any drains/pipes at the bottom of the slope above patio, he would just widen it a bit as requested and slope. I think we need a drain, it rains a lot here. Also now is the time to do it. Advice from here was to use MOT for the path. I think mot1 isn't permeable but mot 3 is, was thinking of putting 14mm on top of donegal quartz 14mm on top in the second stage. Second stage too we will drop kerb, it will be moving the entry slighty to the right, where the silver citroen is parked. We looked at a new builds nearby they all use paving slabs. Any thoughts, it would be really appreciated. That brown pipe just was temporary it was just for rodding drains. Edited 17 hours ago by CalvinHobbes
Conor Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago If there is a chance of water flowing the road in heavy rain, then you want to plan for that. We re-laid the road side kerbs so they were sitting 20mm higher than the road, and put in a bitmac apron with a fall to one side. For the rest its gravel grids and 14mm stone. Works well, no need for any additional drainage. you could lay a short section of channel drain. If you wanted to use grids, all you'd need to do there is smooth the surface out, put down a skim of sand or dust, then the grids and gravel. Loose gravel on a slope is just a waste of time. 1
ToughButterCup Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Help us @CalvinHobbes : does your question relate to the area with the red cone ( patio ?) or the entrance gate - or both? Patio area = if you want a drain, have one. French drain will do - just a simple soak away Entrance gate = MoT3 raising the drive to a good few mm above the water running down the road - topped off as @Conor says above If the apparent slope of the road really is down towards your house - ( image taken with camera level ?) , you might want to consider a French drain to the right of your entrance gate ( looking towards the road ) . I'm thinking of a cloud-burst type rain or persistent heavy rain. 1
