lizzieuk1 Posted April 30 Posted April 30 Trying to figure out the regs for rainwater pipes. We have a couple of 90 degree junctions and one at 45 degrees on our rainwater pipe runs as they go around the hpuse perimeter, can we use rodding points on those or do they have to be inspection chambers? Also, is there a minimum depth they have to run at without needing concrete protection- will all be below paving or garden area.
crispy_wafer Posted April 30 Posted April 30 Interested to know, because we didnt have any that rodding points on the rainwater pipes that surround the perimeter of the build and nothing was raised when they came out at the time, however, I have heard of some BCO’s wanting rodding points where a run exceeds a certain distance. It might be one of those ‘depends who you get’ 1
Nickfromwales Posted April 30 Posted April 30 There’s so much velocity with rain / storm water, these things just tend to flush themselves out. Last one had private BCO and warranty by the same company, and they didn’t want / ask for rodding on rainwater. If you choose wisely, the rainwater gulleys can come with a blank access plug, so it maintains a trap but gives rodding access to the pipework. Decent jetters can get around pretty much anything tbh. 1

Hopefully ok to jump in on this thread. I'm muddling through our rainwater drainage design into our storage pond. Has been no discussion on chambers and rodding points etc, however, B.C have laid down chapter and verse about having a headwall on the pond outlet, as it will erode the bank. I havent found any info / regs citing this as a requirement, except when discharging into main rivers and public water courses, which my pond is not. Wondered whether you have had the same requirement stipulated?

Honestly, i don't think our bc could care less what we do at the pond, he's made no mention of any of it. We're quite happy with that though! We have read about having a headwall and do intend to put something in that will stop any erosion of under the outlet as makes sense to us to do that. I don't think it needs to be too extensive, just a small brick or block 'wall' type affair, with the pipe set into a concrete pad directly under the pipe so it can sit snugly. Regards the regs for it, I cant say i remember reading anything but, you could always ask your BcO to ref the docs for it as he seems so set on it! Drainage is certainly a minefield though!
