Selfbuildsarah Posted yesterday at 10:20 Posted yesterday at 10:20 Having approached a local company a month ago re a heat pump installation and being happy that they asked all the right questions we sent our plans to them to quote. I phoned to chase them up as we still hadn’t heard anything. I received this reply by text “we have never done an air source heat pump in a new build with drawings like this. So it’s not something we can offer to quote on” 🤔
Russdl Posted yesterday at 10:31 Posted yesterday at 10:31 Good grief! Well, at least you found out in good time how professional those professionals are. 1

Honestly, it's more professional to decline work you don't feel comfortable with than to take it on and make a mess of it/slap in an inappropriate solution. Sounds like they had the right questions to ask but relied on slapping the answers into some standardised template which couldn't cope with your setup rather than understanding in detail. Keep hunting for other firms. Would always suggest multiple quotes in any case. 1
JohnMo Posted yesterday at 10:43 Posted yesterday at 10:43 If they cannot quote for a new build with good plans zero hope for a normal house, with no plans. Just cut out the middle man, buy yourself, then claim the vat back. So far finding direct cylinder heating via immersion for domestic hot water isn't that expensive, so a direct immersion cylinder is about £500 compared to £1500 for a heat pump one. Then get as small a heat pump, as your heat loss allows. Direct couple ASHP to your heating system. Super simple install, just two pipes.
