Protek and Mechanical Ventilation certificate

Just curious if people who have used Protek for 10 year warranty have had this test done. We didn't get it done as part of our air test, but now Protek are insisting we need one. I don't really understand why as we have all the specs of the extractor fans, which I have shared with the BCO who has already signed off the build as complete. So what is the purpose of this test now at this stage? Just feels like it is money down the drain just to tick someone's box. We don't have MHVR installed.

Have you asked them where this requirement is defined? Not in building regulations AFAIK, do they have their own list of tests/certifications required?

It is listed as one of their required certificates yes. I did ask them ahead of time what was needed, but they said they would just request all required information at completion.

It just makes no sense to me, why would I pay some company to come and test all the fans to check they comply with BR when I know the spec of them all which I have sent to BR and they have signed off.  So I am testing for something I already know?

Ask them for the exact wording/clause number for this. As we agree there is no commissioning certificate for the use of individual extract fans. There will be Building Reg requirement for extract rates from each 'wet' room but this should be in the spec for the fans

I have had this done in the past and had it done in conjunction with airtightness tests.  The tester did not spend long on this.  Here is an example:

Thanks, yes I have asked the builder who installed to come and test the fans. Then I can put in to a report like this and hopefully that will be ok. I wish I had got it done now as part of air test

As long as the fans have been installed correctly, without excessive ducting, you will be fine.  It takes less than a minute per extract.  I suspect the cooker hood rates are made up.

Thanks, yes we did this and they seem ok now. Yes cooker hood spec rate seems a bit far fetched! Now on to the next problem, only two to go before we can get our certificate!
