Hiya

I have a chicken and egg conundrum.

We have a garage without doors, we want to install the doors, but the garage ceiling will need plasterboarding and plastering before we install the garage door.

The garage door is on a six week delivery time. Would I be OK to plasterboard and plaster the ceiling on a garage without the door, and if I did this how long can I leave the garage without a door.

Many thanks

Use green moisture boards (unless you need to use pink fire rated?) and only skim it a few days before the door is due?

I need to use pink fire rated unfortunately.

I wouldn’t. I gave some leftover sheets to a friend who stored them in a garage with no door. I told him not to but he reckoned it would be fine as it was just a short time. All ruined.

If it's on the ceiling and relatively sheltered you might be ok, though I'd leave it as short a time as possible.

If you don't need access through the front during that time, could you temporarily board up the opening with some OSB or similar? A couple of sheets would be fairly cheap compared to the cost of redoing the ceiling.

If you do need access, maybe you could still put some boarding/protection as a "skirt" across the top section of the opening to prevent wind-driven rain etc from getting to the front edge of the plasterboard.
