Hi

Would any of you have thoughts on me adding a battery to my system.

We are on 2011 tariff with a 2.4kw system.

It is currently earning around £1600 a year.

We have an electric car which we charge overnight on octopus go @ 9p/kw. Average 60kw a week.

We still end up with a bill of on average of £140 a month. Tumble dryer is the biggest user  which we a swapping for a heat pump version.

I have got a quote of £2995 to add a 5.2kw battery. Overall we roughly break even so its not too bad but can we do better.  Would it be worth it and roughly what would be the payback. Any help appreciated.

Swop dryer first.

We have battery and costs for electricity has dropped lots, as it allows to be all cheap rate 24/7. You need to do the maths for your circumstances, only you can tell if it's worth it.

When i take away the car usage we use around 40 to 50kw a week. Does this sound about right for 4bed family of 4 with  Gas heating but electric oven/hob

That’s expensive for a 5.2kW battery. It cost us £2400 for an extra Sigenergy 8 kW battery. Which battery is it?

The council runs a scheme where they put everyones requirements to multiple companies. This was the cheapest.

Was that fitted

Yes but it was part of a £12k install including PV panels, gateway, inverter and two other 8kWh batteries.

Our family of 3.5* in small end-of-terrace use ~6kWh per day excluding heat/DHW.

Quick reminder.

Power is kW, energy is kWh.

I have not had a clothes dryer for years now. My biggest energy saving device was a £1 washing line and pegs from Poundland.

If you feel you really must use one, get the most efficient heat pump one, but still air dry what you can. If your house has MVHR, that will really help, if not, put clothes on hangers, hang them in the curtain rail and crack open the windows in that room.

As for batteries, they are just about price neutral over standard rate electricity if you use the stored power sensibly.

Not sure which post is correct but 4 bed family of 2 using 50 to 60 kWh of Electricity a week (winter higher than summer) (Yearly average is 8.5 kWh a day)

Gas CH & HW - Electric Oven but Gas Hob (No EV) No battery or PV
