Anyone have any idea how long a domestic planning appeal actually takes?
 

mine started in April, I’ve had final comments from the council and submitted my reply and final comments. Not heard a peep since.

The last One i did was about 11 months.

I understand it depends on whether there are complications, for example in a conservation area, which would require specialist involvement. They're short staffed and failing to meet targets... like so many other government services.

They publish statistics link here. For a new single dwelling it looks like the median time is 27 weeks unless there are hearings or enquiries, in which case it's longer. There's a "fast track" (ha ha) process for extensions etc.

It's all a bit complex but have a look at the following link and work through your personal scenario:

There is a 'planning guarantee'. (yea, right...) that states:

 

The planning guarantee is the government’s policy that no application should spend more than a year with decision-makers, including any appeal. In practice this means that major planning applications should be decided in no more than 26 weeks and non-major applications within 16 weeks. Appeals should be determined within 26 weeks. The planning guarantee does not replace the statutory time limits for determining planning applications.

 

So, work the figures and then, if necessary, start holding your planning department to account.

Ours took 11 months - give or take a few days.

We had our start letter on 11 July and the Inspector is visiting this week (😬). I understand they have about a three week turnaround target for getting the decisions out, so assuming no issues, we're expecting ours to be about 3.5 months from start to finish. Full planning permission + National Park + Conservation Area, so pretty tricky.
