Self build on a tight budget

Are you planning to build the timber frame kit yourself? Or are looking for a company to install the kit for you?

 

I would suggest sending your plans to MBC timber frames. They offer a free quotation service and will include the foundations and windows in the quote. This would give you a realistic benchmark for a watertight shell (without any external wall or roof cladding).

The would certainly give you the upper end of the price scale to give you an idea how dear it could be. Dan Wood seem quite cost effective but still too dear for this budget. Here’s a 90m2 2 bed bungalow turnkey.

It would be more helpful if you explained why you don't like it. 

Personally, I found it a useful intro. If your introduction to self build is Grand Designs then the HBB is good at bringing you back down to earth. I don't grudge the £10 I spent on it.
