Post and beam Posted Monday at 18:24 Posted Monday at 18:24 As per my other recent thread here, i got let down by my staircase fitter. So i asked around for alternative fitters and got a price today of £3k inc VAT. Thats to install only, what you see here which is already delivered and waiting in my dining room. To those of you that know about 'chippy stuff' does this look remotely reasonable. I have been advised 2 or perhaps 3 days work.
nod Posted Monday at 18:57 Posted Monday at 18:57 Ours is similar to yours It took me three days with the help of a friend Impossible to do as a one man job Im not a joiner So two joiners would probably be quicker I’d a couple of issues due a manufacturing fault So some of it had to be altered by them I think pricing would have to allow for this
LnP Posted Monday at 22:08 Posted Monday at 22:08 3 days for a joiner and a labourer, round here would be about £800 or £900.

Post and beam Posted Tuesday at 08:45 Author Posted Tuesday at 08:45 In one way i am glad that the consensus so far is that £3k is too much. On the other hand i still need to find someone that can/will do it for closer to £1.5k. Bit of a moot point otherwise. North herts by the way, the rates around here are really high even though work is slowing down apparently
Conor Posted Tuesday at 09:41 Posted Tuesday at 09:41 Our joiners installed 2 stairs in one day - £440. I did the balustrading myself, was a real pain and took a couple more days. is yours largely pre-assembled? Does the price include painting/staining/oiling etc as well? Deffo a two man job, done in a day and a half, two max if there are complexities. Do you have a second fit joiner you've used for your doors, skirting etc? It's not a specialised job.

Everything else is is a well number kit form 2 hours ago, Conor said: Does the price include painting No. My wife and i will be doing that. Happy enough to do so . 2 hours ago, Conor said: Do you have a second fit joiner you've used for your doors, skirting etc Fitting of internal doors will be my son and i. He is not a chippy but very competent working with wood. We did consider doing this ourselves but bottled out. Skirtings and Architraves will be me.
Post and beam Posted Friday at 19:03 Author Posted Friday at 19:03 (edited) Update guys: our stairs have been installed today. £600 for cash. I am very happy with the result. Couple of little screw holes to fill & sand before paint and a tad more glue on one or 2 spindles but a good day overall. Edited Friday at 19:04 by Post and beam spelling 3
