boxrick Posted June 2 Posted June 2 I have just had my gas suppler cap off and remove my gas. I'm trying to fill all service entry points into my wall. I have this I need basically taking back to the ground and out of my property. cadent say about £800 plus £100s per meter. But say others are authorised to work on their pipework. Any advice for getting rid? Im based in Manchester
markc Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Do you really need to remove it? Apart from being a cold bridge, if it’s in a kitchen area and behind cupboards then it’s not really hurting anything and in my opinion not worth the cost of removal. if the inner wall will be visible then you don’t have much choice and the cost is in excavation and working on a live gas main so several personell, lots of paperwork and a few hours to complete the job.
MikeSharp01 Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Once there is no meter you will not be paying any service charge and as such your local gas infrastructure company should be asking you when they can come and remove the pipe back to the road. There is no charge for this service down here so can't see there should be one there. If you think about it you are a 'risk', in the sense that there is now nothing to stop you abusing the connection and taking an uncontrolled gas supply, they need to manage and the best way to do that is for them to remove the pipe.
boxrick Posted June 2 Author Posted June 2 I've requested a removal with a bit of an explanation. I'm hoping they will be sensible about it... I'll wait for a human to quote for me Let's see

I'll wait for a human to quote for me Let's see I went through this loop (being quoted a silly price to remove gas), albeit with a community centre (so possibly classed as commercial) not a house. In the end the gas pipe stayed in place for a couple of years until we could conveniently change 'supplier' to one who would remove it all for free (BG I think). Crazy I know but in the end it was removed and we didnt pay a penny.
JohnMo Posted Monday at 08:23 Posted Monday at 08:23 Just asked for our gas to be removed. Asked last week and octopus will remove in two weeks. Zero cost. But only the meter removal. Pipe is a different story, but for us, that and the cabinet can stay for ever, as long as a service charge is gone.
