-rick- Posted Monday at 12:47 Posted Monday at 12:47 Yeh I wouldn't mix and match, either all eARC or all through Denon (unless I was bug hunting and wanting to test all cases 🙃)  Curious why you want the Denon overlays? I never found them much use and the TV should show overlays for key things like volume. (Been ages since I had an AVR though as mine blew up and I never replaced it as I barely watch TV now). 1

So I can fiddle with a wide variety of audio options !Â
Pocster Posted Monday at 14:38 Author Posted Monday at 14:38 HDMI bypass on denon as suggested by richer sounds ; (expletive deleted)ing ChatGPT didn’t think of that ! . Testing ….
Pocster Posted Monday at 15:06 Author Posted Monday at 15:06 Well ! I think I’ve watched a certain scene in rebel moon now over a 100 times !
Pocster Posted Monday at 15:23 Author Posted Monday at 15:23 Just dropped signal ffs ! Â vertex2 here I come !

The options are typically 1.4 and 2.3. I can fix that to one of those both on the AVC and the TV or select auto where the amp will match the TV. HDCP used to be a pia on the PS5. 1

The Denon overlays are quite comprehensive. You can see some of the information on the built in screen but it’s easier to change settings via the TV overlays. You also need it when setting up the speakers/video as it has a setup wizard. 1

Pocster Posted Monday at 16:07 Author Posted Monday at 16:07 So I’m going to try all new hdmi certified cables first .  if that fails - stick the vertex2 in  All bought from Amazon so all returnableÂ
Pocster Posted Monday at 16:30 Author Posted Monday at 16:30 What a faff ! . There I was sound system ; hdmi plugged in and … Go ! - like (expletive deleted) !
Pocster Posted Tuesday at 07:24 Author Posted Tuesday at 07:24 Much chatting to ChatGPT ( more than I do to SWMBO ) . Various devices can be funny about their hdmi handshake . The ‘standard’ isn’t enforced and brands do what they want . Usual non conformity in IT I guess . Appletv is notorious for being super strict on things . So if a signal is fractionally delayed or a handshake missed it will temporarily drop the signal hence ‘ no connection’ error . I tried switch 2 direct into denon for only 45 minutes - with zero issue . So will test that further . Vertex2 arrives today and one of its many functions is it will send a handshake to a device at speed regardless of its intended destination. So it fools the Appletv that it’s got a perfect signal response always . 1
Pocster Posted Tuesday at 13:44 Author Posted Tuesday at 13:44 Vertex2 is in . All running , no idea how effective it is . If no blackouts in an evening of watching then it’s success .
Pocster Posted Tuesday at 13:49 Author Posted Tuesday at 13:49 This is why an Appletv might work for a particular setup and not for someone else . Unfortunately that applies to ALL the AV stuff I.e tv , amp , console etc etc . Hence blackout screens common the more AV stuff you have … unless ( supposedly) you have a vertex2 .
Kelvin Posted Tuesday at 14:00 Posted Tuesday at 14:00 As I mentioned I’ve never encountered this problem. I don’t have a specific Apple TV device right enough as I just use the app but do have multiple other devices all connected to the Denon. One of the main points of an AVC like the Denon is to take multiple devices and output them via one or other of their two outputs. Adding more boxes cables and another PSU is crap especially at the huge cost of that Vertex device. If it works it works. 1

I could bin the Appletv , buy a fire stick and it all works fine . Look online though plenty of dropped signal issues with all tv’s and streaming boxes . Some people even buy a new tv because they send their firestick / Appletv back as ‘ faulty ‘ - when it’s returned and they still have issues buy another tv ! . Sometimes they still have the issue 😳. As I’m likely to change / add something at some point AND ( IF at the moment ) this expensive vertex thing works - then it’s worth keeping . But yes , it’s crazy … Edited Tuesday at 14:11 by Pocster
Pocster Posted Tuesday at 14:13 Author Posted Tuesday at 14:13 My mate chat said  I’d estimate that 60–80% of HDMI-related black screen dropouts in home theatre setups involving Apple TV, AVRs, and projectors/displays could be resolved or significantly improved with a device like the HDFury Vertex2. 1
Kelvin Posted Tuesday at 15:58 Posted Tuesday at 15:58 Keep us updated on the dear HDMI switcher! I’m using a cheap powered HDMI splitter but only because I don’t have an HDMI cable long enough. I wonder if it’s actually masking a similar problem. 1

Though nearly put it through the window ! Noticed my Netflix account wasn’t 4k so upgraded . Expected that to happen on next monthly payment . So I put rebel moon on again ! ( sick of this film ! ) so it’s not 4k, not hdr or atmos . Eating food . Screen blanks out . Words with F emitted !! . Then check … now it’s 4k , atmos ! So magic happened !
Kelvin Posted Tuesday at 18:08 Posted Tuesday at 18:08 It is a switcher. It even says as much on their website (among many other things it does)Â 1

It’s only got 2 hdmi port in ! lol - not much to switch . 😊 Would be a very expensive switcher for 2 inputs ! . I’m only using 1 . As a signal management of hdmi protocols is a better description. I’ve got a hdmi switcher with 3 inputs ; cost about 40 quid .   But so far so good zero blackout Edited Tuesday at 18:13 by Pocster

No use to me if it only has 2 inputs. You are correct ! I was thinking about another magic box I’ve got . I’ve had a few hiccups but I’m certain these are more related to the stream . For example no audio for a second . No dropout from denon nor apple . I’ve gone 1.5hrs with no blackout so that’s considerably better than before ….Â
Pocster Posted Tuesday at 19:36 Author Posted Tuesday at 19:36 Argh ! It dropped signal for 2 seconds ! New certified hdmi leads arrive tomorrow so will need to retest ! Bum !!
Kelvin Posted Tuesday at 20:07 Posted Tuesday at 20:07 Scunner. I don’t stream much as moved back to physical media. 1
