Originaltwist Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Our cess pit is brimming from time to time and the suggested fix is a new drainage field (£7,000) or a new 'system' (£12,000) Has anyone here had any luck with a bacterial fix such as muckmunchers?
markc Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Bacteria boosters definitely improve a “damaged” septic, but looking after it is much better - minimal bleach, even that should be septic friendly. No fats etc. down the drain. That should/will reduce emptying but if it’s filling up with liquid there must be a blockage or restriction, or surface water is pouring in.
JohnMo Posted April 25 Posted April 25 We have a treatment plant. We use muck munchers once per month. Zero smells, still haven't emptied it, nearly 3.5 years in the house. 45 minutes ago, Originaltwist said: muckmunchers
nod Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Replace If you ever come to sell It will be an issue with the buyers solicitors We had our last treatment plant in for five years before we emptied it No smells Never needed to add anything to it
Originaltwist Posted April 26 Author Posted April 26 Thanks all. And noted. Actually it was flagged by our solicitors when we bought 5 years ago so we asked the vendors to knock off a chunk of dosh ... so perhaps it makes sense to bite the bullet now. However the guy that empties, it every year at least, says simple is best and don't change it. One might argue that simple doesn't seem to be best right now. I'm doing a percolation test next week to start off with real facts and then go from there.
dpmiller Posted April 26 Posted April 26 so have you confirmed that it's even a septic system and not just a leaky cesspit?
