Help - how to connect basin waste

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm working on this fancy joinery piece, and have this nice looking waste pipe (it will be visible) for a basin waste.

The plan would be to cut back the black solvent weld pipe, make the connection, and then hide the connect under the cover plate (provided by manufacturer of the gold coloured pipe).

Any suggestions for how I should connect these two pipes ? (I'm not a plumber)

Thank you in advance

It looks like you won’t be able to use a compression fitting and the differing pipe sizes exclude a push fit or solvent weld. Unless anyone else has a suggestion I think you are only left with bonding your gold pipe inside the existing.

Your normal compression waste fitting will work with the solvent weld pipe, not the push fit type. That's how I did all of mine. But I've no idea how you'll hide the fitting. Would be better if you had a push fit bend / coupler in behind the joinery so you can just push the gold pipe in. Can you get access behind to remove the solvent weld pipe and install a push fitting so it sits just behind the finished joinery?

It will work, and is the go-to solution ;) Compression is the only way to join plastic to these 'fancy' waste / trap kits tbh.

This is what I do, and the compression stuff just never leaks or fails as long as you don't use any silicone / lube etc on the joint. It is a must to put these on  'dry' and only tighten to a bit past hand-tight, then jobs a good 'un.
