dnoble Posted Friday at 07:09 Posted Friday at 07:09 This 9kwh Sunamp has just leaked onto the floor leaving salty residues. Happened last 3 nights It was installed in 2019. Working fine since then, charge overnight and via solar panels. We still have hot water but presumably if it loses more of the salt this will end Sunamp, have asked us to fill in a form and we're waiting for them to get back to us. How urgent is this? Don't want to be hot waterless. Is there any hazard from having this stuff leaking onto the floor (luckily it's downstairs onto a concrete floor) 1
Nickfromwales Posted Friday at 07:30 Posted Friday at 07:30 That’s one of many I’m afraid. Its food grade salt so just a crusty mess to clean up, but it’ll just give less and less hot water each time you recharge it. Sunamp have been pretty quick to change a lot of the burst / failed units that I put in for former clients, so hopefully they’ll be reactive. 🤞. Who installed it? Back then they had no installer network.
dnoble Posted Friday at 07:33 Author Posted Friday at 07:33 (edited) Friend who's a plumber installed it. It don't think it was particularly complicated (though the instructions were crap, I remember him complaining). If it's a known problem I wonder if they have improved the design to stop it happening on the replacement? Edited Friday at 07:34 by dnoble
Nick Laslett Posted Friday at 07:45 Posted Friday at 07:45 (edited) Video of original install with older spec model. Do you have a pressure reducing valve in your configuration? Around 2021-22 they updated the models and changed the installation instructions to include a “Inlet Control Group Valve”. Video with revised install method and new model. Nickfromwales Posted Friday at 08:30 Posted Friday at 08:30 The USP of these things was compact / modular size (the ‘9’ would fit under a kitchen worktop) and the fact these were zero service and maintenance and didn’t require G3. Now you have PRV’s and PRedV’s and EV’s on them, all which require annual inspection to ensure that they are still functional. I guess another nail in the coffin for that USP, given the prices people are being quoted these days for supply and fit vs fitting an UVC; the requirement for G3 may not be there with the latest get-out-of-jail solutions but they certainly now do need this inspection to be carried out. If anyone’s got a new set of MI’s to hand please let us know!
jack Posted Friday at 09:38 Posted Friday at 09:38 This thread is worth a skim read if you haven't seen it already. 1
dnoble Posted Friday at 15:21 Author Posted Friday at 15:21 Thanks for the replies Nice to see Jeremy back on the forum (via that link, Jack). We visited him 8-odd years ago and were inspired by him to get a Sunamp! Good news is Sunamp have just emailed and are delivering a new on on Tuesday. Which is nice! 4
