Simplysimon
up at horses yesterday morning helping daughter, wife decided to stay and do the ironing. daughters phone rings, mine flat battery, 'come home, there's a smell of burning'. got home and 'oh yes and it smells electrical' wife already pulled some of the 'stuff' from under stairs, i pulled a lot more, felt a cushion which was warm. it was the big black fuse before the meter and it was HOT, live wire going black and popping ocasionally. emergency sparky called 'you need scottishpower as it's the power going to next door' (we're a semi). he pulled the fuse as he said it would go on fire. so 3hrs later we now have two nice new henleys, i was reading about them in another post and was wondering what they were, now i know! so glad it was during the day and someone was in, we would have had a fire otherwise, seriously scary thought, house still smells of burnt wiring. Ferdinand
That is actually a persuasive argument for a service cupboard where there is no room to stuff anything else. Glad you caught it.
Cpd
Crikey mate that was a close one, thank god someone still uses an iron, if that was me the place would have burnt down due to there being no iron or ironing to do. Glad all is well.
Onoff
An all metal AMD3 consumer unit under the stairs would have done Jack Schitt in this case! Phew! Not a bad shout to have a smoke detector in there for future peace of mind.
