CMPW Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Hi All, We moved into a house that already had a solar system installed - however we have now found out that the G83 cert (applicable when it was installed) was never registered. The company that installed it has gone out of business so I am trying to apply for the certification myself (so that we can then sign up to one of Octopuses tarrifs). I gather that I would now need to apply for a G98. I have confirmed with SolarEdge that our inverter meets the standards, and I have managed to get the DNO certificate. However, I am finding some of the questions on the UKPN Smart Connect site a bit confusing. I did try reaching out to a couple of local installers - but none seem want to help. Has anyone gone through this process that could give me some advice?
Dillsue Posted March 5 Posted March 5 G98 is a notification not an application. How do you know the G83 wasn't registered? Our DNO had no record of our G83 install but admitted that it doesn't necessarily mean they didn't receive it!! If your inverter is an older one that is G83 compliant but not G98, you might run into problems submitting generation a G98??
CMPW Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 Honestly, I don't know if the G83 was registered or not. I am going off the MCS certificate that I have managed to get that says at the bottom "DNO Notification Compliance: To be notified post connection and commissioning", and when I called UKPN they said that they didn't have any details for our house and to fill in the G98. I did contact SolarEdge who confirmed that the inverter is G98 compliant - but honestly feel a bit stuck.
cjsparkey Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Not familiar with UKPN G98 form but up here in Scotland the SPN notification form is quite minimal, if you have the MCS cert most if not all the information should be there. Technically the DNO is supposed to be informed before switching on but it’s usually straight forward.

That's exactly where we ended up with an MCS cert but the DNO having no record of the install. If SE have confirmed the inverter is G98 compliant then steam on with the notification.

Useful to know We had to go full G99 (G100) as 6.8Kw and limited export to 3.6Kw due to feeble rural power network. Back to the question @CMPW which bit of the notification is causing the query? Back to the question @CMPW which bit of the notification is causing the query? I think I have realised its because I've ticked "don't know" to the DNO cutout rating. Hoping this will be as simple as calling them up and asking them to confirm what it is. I also thought that I had to complete the G100 export limitation section - but re-reading it I realise I can select no to this.

I don't know what UKPN ask for but the ENA G98 notification that they should be using doesn't ask for the cutout size. Maybe check you're using the correct forms?? The ENA forms are all available on line and it's likely G98 form B you should be using For the export limitation that should be built into a G98 compliant inverter. Are you using an SE3680H inverter or smaller?? Edited March 6 by Dillsue

I have an SE3500H (SOETC/02349/V1/A2) I was filling in the details on the smart connect site - but having looked at the G98 Form B (traditional style) it looks a lot simpler. I will give this a go. Thank you @Dillsue.

CMPW Posted Friday at 13:24 Author Posted Friday at 13:24 Under the installer details - would I just put down the details that I have for them even though they are no longer in business (and just leave the signature blank - or just sign in myself!)

Put the details you know, you can’t sign as the installer but you could scribble not known etc. that would look like a signature.
MikeSharp01 Posted Friday at 13:53 Posted Friday at 13:53 You can just be yourself, you don't need to be an installer, they have been instructed to deal with individuals as well as companies. I just told them my name - all worked fine.
CMPW Posted Friday at 14:21 Author Posted Friday at 14:21 Do you think there will be any push back with the install date being so long ago?
