I wonder whether some people might want to nominate some subjects they want to cover? I do like the idea of a regular meet up, so well done for organising. Monthly is too frequent for me, but please don’t let me stop anyone else. I’ll happily attend every other month. As for format, I felt that the discussion flowed well without the need for encouragement, so I’m happy with just natural conversation.

olley Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Sorry guys only just seen this, thanks for the invite but I just don't have the time at the moment.
marshian Posted March 3 Posted March 3 I’m going to struggle for this week - working late shift because of someone else on holiday

Alan Ambrose Posted April 15 Author Posted April 15 Ah, good point. Anyone else available? Same place?
G and J Posted April 15 Posted April 15 If we made it the Cherry Tree pub in Woodbridge it could be combined with a site visit to the historic site of da (by then hopefully demolished) bungalow. We could compare hard hats and steel toecapped footwear.

I'd be up for that - I got a ban from the cherry tree in 1980 (Don't ask it was a misunderstanding about the legal age to drink in a pub without an appropriate adult) However I'm pretty sure 1. They won't recognise me now compared to the spotty teenager I was 2. The grumpy twat that ran the place is probably dead anyway
LSB Posted April 16 Posted April 16 We would be happy to go to the Cherry Tree depending on work commitments as not clear about something in the diary and the person to ask is currently in Lanzarote.
Alan Ambrose Posted 23 hours ago Author Posted 23 hours ago Duh, I just discovered that the better 1/2 has booked us to see Dara O'Brien next Thurs, so I will have to miss which is a great pity. I like the idea of visiting someone's site and local though. Mine's a (part) driveway and nothing else much atm .

G and J Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago It’s been pointed out to me that my site consists of, errr, a rectangle of mud. To me it’s so, so much more. It’s a rectangle of mud I’ve sweated my bits off to clear. Therefore it’s the most consuming bit of real estate on the planet. But apparently humans might think differently. Sniff. So methinks another day another venue might be a good idea. I hear someone up near Sax is allowing peeps to play with his big bits of kit. It’s worth considering. 😉
zzPaulzz Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago This was my site a few days ago! Moving the public sewer before anything else can happen. 1

LSB Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Saga for the day for us. I went to check the safe to see if I had anything worth selling - sadly not, but it's attached to the wall in the back of the wardrobe behind other things and difficult to get at. When trying to get to it I realised that everything around it was soaking, all my posh frocks - never worn these days, lots of important paperwork, the safe was full of water as it has a ledge. Also, some nik naks that were my mothers, worth nothing as such except sentimental value, now in the bin sadly. The floor and boards were also soaked. Before talking to the insurance Dave decided to investigate further. He got into the attic above and discovered a plumbing valve air lock thingy had perished and was dripping. So, I asked, why is so much soaked. Turns out when the heating is on it gushes rather than drips. It is 25 years old as it's in the house extension that we built back then. Oddly, there are 4 of said valves and the other 3 are still perfect. At least the part was only 7.99, it's just the damage it's done. The worst is that the leak is right above a wall which is why I guess we haven't noticed it and we are concerned about the middle of the wall, it is block rather than wood. I used one of said frocks for a party at the end of March so not been leaking for that long. We have guests from tonight until Monday so can't do anything until they have gone because it means draining all the water and possibly heating water as well. But with insurance excess it's not worth claiming. At least it hasn't delayed the real build as we had phase 2 trench fill yesterday so needed to be left to harden and it rained all morning. So, hope your days have gone better. 2
Alan Ambrose Posted 14 hours ago Author Posted 14 hours ago Feel free to carry on without me - sun’s out, kettle’s hot etc. @lsb - sorry to hear about your mishap, there’s always something,..

The cavity will dry in time.

It simply wouldn’t be the same. We’ll do it another time, maybe near someone’s site when they’ve something for us all to gawp at. Either that or we could have an activity thing like a steel lifting party or a team basement dig…
