the ulitmate cheap 2/3 bed house

 how to build all these housues we need in the country 

not necc to be DIY

 but a fresh look at the whole subject 

 it has always seemed tom e that there must be a cheap way if houses are built insections in facotries then just crane in the four outwer walls 

 

 

so maybe first thing is the dieal design which would suit most buyers and make it easy to mass construct them 

 and get away from all these wet trades  on site where possible  with all weather constraints 

 maybe its time to consider the most cost effectiive roofing system as well ,as these houses are aimed at the starter level 

not considering HUFF house type units as they are not cheap --but maybe something inbetween what we build now and them 

 

cannot be beyond the wit of man to make these in a factory with all the savings that would give 

 

I open it up to all you clever pweole to put ideas forward to discuss 

 

 concrete panls with insulation atatched to inside then prebuilt wood internal panels- basic stucture ererected in a day 

 or something like sips  but a complete wall  in one piece -etc

It can be done and has been done, many time before ,the real question is why has this not been used for mass house building?  You would think that one of the big developers must have looked into this but decided that it's not financially viable?

The key question is whether peeps would buy them and at what price.

 

When I grew up peeps talked about the Jerry built prefabs being awful.  (You know the post ww2 quick and cheap homes, of which a remarkable number still survive, but were still vilified).
 

Add to that the prefab section concrete houses that lots of local authorities had to buy back because they were awful.

 

Plus lenders and insurers not taking to any of the ‘foreign muck’.

 

Oh and the leasehold scandal too.  We have a culture with a hardened perception that the building industry does bad stuff.

We build timber framed houses so why not? They seem to do it in the USA. I would guess the house builders know their market, what is cost effective and what sells so something must be stopping them. I do also think we in the UK are partial to brick (I know I am) or block as a “solid” house. IF I were to build again (which I am not) I think iwould build timber frame with brick skin.

hotels are often built in sections, complete with bathrooms already installed and fitted furniture like wardrobes.
I saw one build in North Bristol when I used there, took about a week for a 100 bed hotel with all the conference rooms.
Not sure how BC works though
