Problems pairing wireless thermostat

I would really appreciate some help. I am trying to help out my elderly neighbour - he damaged a wireless thermostat a few weeks back and has just got a new one.
To control a 2-zone 'wet' underfloor heating system.
I cannot pair the new thermostat with the control unit.
It's a John Guest ('JG') 8-zone base unit, and the thermostat is branded as 'Heatmiser', but I think that's a JG product too.
The issue seems to be a pairing button on the base unit - I just cannot find it anywhere.
All the on-line manuals seem to be based on a newer model.
I've attached pics of the front of the unit, the inside of it, and the back of the new thermostat.
I've followed all the instructions given to 'pair' the new 'stat, but it is not talking to the base unit at all.
The other thermostat he has is working fine - so it must be possible to pair this model somehow.
Can anyone help at all please? I think I just have to get the base unit into 'pairing mode' but just cannot see how to do it.
I have been 'caller number 14' for far too long on the 'helpline'...

I am not an expert - one will be along soon I bet. In the meantime, try this.

 

Find out which frequency the stat works with. I bet it (the thermostat)  operates on 2.4 GiggleHerz ( Yes yes I know @SteamyTea ... gimme a break). And maybe your friend has his WiFi set to 5 gHz. In which case the thermostat won't talk to anything (except itself)

 

First job: find out which frequency the thermostat uses and which is being used by the router. 

Next: match the router with the thermostat frequency  (likely to be 2.4gHz)

 

Then come back here.....

 

Maybe the Control unit referred to above is designed to obviate that problem. Issue is still the same - the control unit and the thermostat need to be on the same frequency. 

Check each of them. Do the freqiencies match?

You are referring to someone that is currently struggling getting date from some ESP2866s to a Raspberry Pi Zero W.

Are we sure that it’s not its own proprietary WiFi signal ? . E.g my somfy blinds operate on 433mhz and therefore a bitch to HA .

Maybe it's compatible, but if you asked me to bet, I would bet not. The JG stats don't look like the Heatmiser ones and Heatmiser has their own range of controllers.

 

Suggest finding the instructions for the controller and it will probably tell you which stats are compatible. Are you even sure the controller accepts wireless stats?

 

So, find the instructions or call JG?
