Weather compensation wtf?

Our houses at a very stable temperature, but there are some days that it just feels cooler. We had the fire on yesterday. Small load to get it started, then one small log. Burn was about 3 hours on very low. Soap stone gave off heat until bedtime. Small log shed would keep us going for a couple of years.

Worth saying that in another house we have had WC on Vokera gas boiler with Drayton TRV4s, and once set up it hardly ever needed adjusting.

 

Apart from when I had to replace the outdoor sensor (I bought a selection of commercial thermistors for a few £s not their £50 replacement part). Added a trimmer to the circuit for good measure, mfr provides gain adjutment but not offset.

Aren’t wood burners now frowned upon due to the particulates being higher than vehicle traffic?

Noted.  I think its WC that is the game changer in terms of stability, a technology thats been around for decades and is mandatory in some countries.  It seems illogical to some, given that its room temperature that matters, but of course its perfectly logical because it means that the control system is ahead of the game rather than always playing catch up and the emitter temperature and hence output is more closely matched to the demand.  Its something of an indictment of our heating industry that the technology was shunned in the UK until heat pumps forced it to happen!

There are clearly some 'perception' factors at work (we experience the same) which control systems ignore.  I do wonder if humidity is one factor at work.  If we do some washing and dry it indoors, even though we put the dehumidifier on and the measured house temperature is the same, it feels colder!

There is. Read a report 2 decades ago when I was at university about how raising RH when cold can sometimes make a difference, but cannot remember if it feels warmer or colder. Was an American report about large public buildings.

When I got the system put in in 2009 the Vokera was the only small (20kW) boiler I could find that had it. The plumbers had never heard of WC, or Vokera (since acquired by Riello). I think the internal expansion vessel needs replacing now but other than that it has needed no attention. The HX is an extruded finned aluminium pipe hydroformed into a coil, which is quite neat.

 

In the house before that there was an Ideal Mexico, I found an aftermarket WC box from Danfoss which allowed/prevented the boiler firing according to the measured return temperature and OAT. With zone valves it cut 1/3 off the gas bill.

My 15 year old Worcester Bosch (presumably now in the skip) actually had a WC add on available (I don't and didn't have it).  Totally analogue so far as I can tell from the limited information now available!
