ronofcam
Long story short, gents. Building control have asked for a separate rodding point for my RWP on a new garden room. The RWP is cut 50mm (or thereabouts) above a hopper and grate, which allows leaves etc to be cleared. Also, we're going to install a trap so that no foul air can escape (the RWP will go into a new inspection chamber, which itself will tie in to an existing drainage system). Why do we need a separate rodding point for the RWP? In the grand scheme of things it's not hard to install, but the builder and I are scratching our heads a little. Thanks! JohnMo
Because in years time the drain may be blocked? And how do you then clear it?
ronofcam
Conceivably, the only thing that could block that particular section (the run from the hopper to the inspection chamber is less than 2 metres) is leaves. I would have thought the grate on top of the hopper would solve that issue. As I said, it's not a difficult thing to do, really, but just slightly irksome. Blockages could be rodded from the inspection chamber, after all.
Kelvin
We have loads or rodding points too. Building control seemed keen to make sure you could easily access every part of the drainage system. Therefore every straight run has a rodding point.

Have you tried it? if it is a good proposal then demonstrate it working to the bco. there is nothing saying that a rodding point must be a proprietary system. gullies can be trapped or convoluted so are not an obvious solution. Mr Punter
Use a roddable bottle gulley at the bottom.

Ditto, we used roddable bottle gulleys on the rainwater, lift off the grating, pull out the plastic plug in the side and you can get a rod down the connecting drain, simples!
