Site security fencing

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

We are demolishing our plot in two phases, everything apart from the prefab bungalow first followed by the bungalow (we can't demolish the bungalow until we have full planning permission). We are doing this because there is a restriction on the demolition window to avoid nesting birds in the many sheds, trees, brambles etc. that surround the bungalow.

Phase 1 demolition has started and heras security fencing has been erected.

We will have a 3 month window between the two demolition phases and it would be good to use this time productively.

The CDM regs are really vague when it comes to site security fencing standards.

Would it be OK to replace the heras fencing with a 4 foot feather-edged fence. We would also attach the usual site security/building site warning signs.

Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Many thanks

Is that because the heras is expensive to hire?

If so, change it for second hand heras bought on marketplace. Or ask the hirer Co. for a price to buy it as is.

Hiring costs as much as buying new after 6 months plus you pay for damage.

Watch out for CIL liability if you start before planning is obtained.

Edit:  Existing property there so no CIL - too early on a Sunday morning, need to wake up before I post anything!

I'd think about both protecting your site, and protecting the public from the dangers on your site.

Sites are exciting places to play, but dangerous. Signs won't keep children out, you need a secure fence for safety.

Ah…..so you’re asking if you install what will be a tall domestic timber fence will it be sufficient for security and site protection..  Near us is a partially completed housing estate.  Some of the building site areas are definitely sectioned off from the occupied areas by what is clearly domestic fencing that will be left as such once completed.

So basically can a little kid get in through your proposed timber fence is your litmus test.

So the answer is yes, but obviously in a plant equipment -v- timber fence WWF clash,  new timber fence will lose, but your heras fence would be seeking a rematch.

Heras fencing is ok but pretty easy to get around if someone wanted to.  Is the area likely to attract unwanted visitors?

If so, you might want to consider something a little more permanent like V Mesh Fencing .  Although it would cost you more, it would definitely protect the site properly.
