tokyotecubate
Hello all, Happy Sunday! We are currently building a loft conversion and rear extension. For the loft, we will be fitting a 3m wide (1.1 m high) piece of glass blaustrade that weighs 170kg - while the installer previously says that they can bring this up with more manpower, turns out on the day they say it can't be done and we will now need to look at solutions to bring this up. Given that we currently have scaffolding around the whole dormer, it seems that the crane is the feasible solution ( though not sure if that's really an overkill for a single piece of glass. ). The height from the ground up to the dormer ( past the scaffolding) is more than 8m so the SLA25 might not be feasible. Another really annoying problem is with the current setup of the scaffolding - the current scaffolding setup has 3 poles that is directly in front of where the glass blaustrade sits, ( see the picture with the light lighted bits), though not sure we were can manoeuvre it around to bring it in. The opening for the area for installation is also quite small as well. What are your thoughts on a possible solution for this? Should we wait till we take the scaffolding is down before installing it? But would we need to keep the scaffolding in order to install the glass from outside? Currently the scaffolding is also holding us up for the GF extension as well, which we are desperate to get started. Other than massively pounding myself inside for having taken simply trusted the window installer's initial recommendation that it can be hoisted up by hand and ordered the glass, what would be your recommendation for me to do about this situation? Thank you so much, and have a nice day!
Conor
Get the scaffolders back for a day to clear those bays, hire a 15m telehandler to lift the glass up, and then get the scaffolders to reset. All done in a day.
Mr Punter
What about a scaffold hoist and some web slings?
tokyotecubate
Thank you @Conorand @Mr Punter, really appreciate your insights. @Conor great point about bringing the scaffolders in - we are actually planning to take part of the scaffolding down (along with tinhat), and can just take it off without the need to resemble it. for the telehandler, do you know if there are smaller ones that can be lifted / moved into the back garden? ( Which is where the blaustrade is facing). We are a terraced house with tight access to the gardens unfortunately. Do you know if any other hoisting solutions that can be easily brought into the garden by carrying? @Mr Punter, for scaffold hoist, does it work with glass? The only thing I worry is that, being at 3m long, the glass could easily bang on the scaffold and break. Thank you both!
nod
It may not be possibly But I’d look at getting it up from the inside and reviving the sliders A tele-handler is a real no no It will almost certainly get damaged If if you manage to avoid the Scaf Steel forks and glass don’t go together
