Should joints between panels be taped? I’ve read contradicting advice in this. Thinking specifically about the roof at the moment but figure it’s relevant all over?

 Thanks

Is the OSB your air-tightness layer, or is that dealt with by a separate membrane? If the former, yes, tape. If the latter, maybe not. (Unless you are a serious pessimist and decide to do both!)

Thanks. Good question. I’ll need to check with the TF company. Presumably internally needs to be taped or sealed in that case and external left untaped?

Difficult to answer without knowing the SIPs designer's rationale/strategy, but yes, the bottom one could be the combined a/t and vapour-check plane. Although of course a/t layers can be external...

I'd do both.

Avoids air going through SIP joints if there a compromise in the VCL.

It isn't that much tape in the grand scheme of things.

all our panels were foamed together during build.  the sole plates & top plates were siliconed as were all the internal roof joints & eaves.  i didnt bother internally taping anything or running a VCL inside.  OUtside was thermally wrapped & i did tape that although not sure it adds much.  Key is making as few holes in the structure as possible & if you do foaming & siliconing them carefully (spec window openings & where any pipes enter/ leave).  Our place is very very stable temp all year & pretty good air tightness without any of the internal taping. if you did tape inside as well then you could achieve passive standards pretty easily in my opinion
