Council wants me to move fence on my property

Had my fence up for 4 and half years and the council are wanted me to move it in a metre as it runs parrellel with a highway can they make me do this as the fence is on my property

How tall can a fence be UK?

• If the fence abuts a highway used by vehicles (or the footpath of such a highway if there is one), it cannot exceed one metre in height from ground level.
• In all other situations, a fence cannot exceed two metres in height from ground level.
