vik2001 Posted May 17 Share Posted May 17 This steel is spanning 10m across the whole house and is sitting above joists level. It will have a flat roof in the extension joining onto it. markc Posted May 17 Share Posted May 17 (edited) Beam can be above joists to keep a clean soffit / ceiling line, it does make connections somewhat more complicated tho. padstone looks ok, a little off centre but I have seen much worse. back to the underslung joists, what is above them? But I know it was done to keep the ceiling height the same in new extension as that flat roof will join onto this.. I'm just worried about all the weight being on the joists? Is that a issue? The load is being transferred from steel down to the foundations throughout the steel post pictured and the padstone/wall. It looks fine to me. Do you have any engineering drawings to compare it to?
