Painting bricks with bitumen DPM

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I hope you are well.
I have the outer insulation however below the damp line there are red bricks. There is some black residue but it's worn out. I was wondering if I should repaint it with a bitumen paint?
What do you say?

The DPC should be level with the bottom of the render, I have often seen bricks painted like that but never understood it, surely the bricks being below the DPC would be better letting any damp evaporate which Bitumen paint would stop 🤷‍♂️.

right so you say it's nonsensical to do that on those bricks. Not sure if this is actually bitumen paint but it looks like it must be at least 15 years old.
