I am a conservation architect specialising in listed and historic buildings; I run a small design practice in Altrincham but work across the UK; we undertake all sorts of design work (not just conservation-related). I am planning to build a contemporary house to (near) Passive house standards for my wife and I to retire into. This field interests me greatly but I am a learner and will hopefully be able to draw upon the experience of members and help others with my specialism and many years in practice. My grandfather, father, and now my youngest son are/were Architects. Thanks for allowing me to join.

Welcome to BH.

Plenty of folk here who have been there and got the PH shirt, you'll get lots of suggestions and practical advice for you to mull over.

With your background you can share what you know as you say, good for the sole!

All the best.

Welcome welcome.

Passivhaus made from stuff that used to be plants with some renewables is the end point for buildings.

There's a million ways to skin a cat but ultimately that is the finishing line.

Anu sketches or ideas to share are always appreciated.

Welcome

Sounds like it could be an interesting project.

I am of the mind that it should not be too hard to build a net energy zero house without getting bogged down complicated design modelling and technology.

As an architect you must be used to dealing with unachievable goals and entrenched practices.

Welcome. Any reason why you’re going for ‘near’ Passive House standards instead of aiming for Passivhaus or Passivhaus Plus standards? Easy done at the design stage.
