Dee
Hi What should it cost first? Run plastic pipes with push fittings for a basin, shower and loo.? Then set shower tray and trap, run waste pipes for basin and shower and connect into existing internal stack? clean clear site, approximately 4m run..nothing complicated. ( actual Connection into system was done by guys fitting boiler so discount this task ) Thanks
JohnMo
How long is that bit of string question. Obviously you are being quoted higher than you expected, if so ask someone else for a quote. If it's part of a bathroom install, you are also paying for the coordination of subcontractors etc. Asking a 3rd party contractor you employ to do the work, is asking for delays, and - he said, she said arguments, if it turns to a crock of sh.... Dee
Hi, it was a standalone job. No other trades involved as I'm doing everything else around the plumber....and now I've seen what he's done I could have done it myself (but lack confidence). He was on site for 2 hours and 'picking up parts' for 2 hours! He's done an OK job but I always feel ripped off. So just trying to get a feel for hourly rates ect. I know now to get a fixed price but guess I'm just too trusting of people 🙃
crispy_wafer
He's probably allocated a day for the job, so whatever day rate is plus materials. I'd forget about hourly rates for tradesmen! Edited November 16, 2023 by crispy_wafer
Dee
On a similar thread....In our rental property I've been given a price of £1500 to temporarily remove shower valve, install 3 wet wall panels in a shower, (over tiles,) remove old door and replace with new one, refit valve. Company has refused to give breakdown of costs! It's a bungalow, easy access, clean site, nothing complicated. Does the price seem OK???

We had a rental, the agent was phoned by tenant to get a basic repair, asked what was involved and where the tradesmen were travelling from. Turns out they were travelling circa 100 miles each way to do a 10 minute job. I got my own trades from then on.
Dee
gaz-moose.....they havnt stated which panels as they won't provide a breakdown! I'm not using them anyway at that price! Maybe it's the agent that's trying to rip me off.... Which panel would you recommend?.
