ag1976
Hi, just a quick question and some advice would Bev appreciated on this. Steel just added and overlapped the pad into cavity on one side and short on the other. Not by much but wasn’t sure if it could present a problem? A couple of photos attach to illustrate. Thanks

Thanks More info required. Im not an SE but I thought the bearing end should be circa 150mm? Sometimes brick piers or steel posts have to be added otherwise its only resting on a 100mm thick leaf. If your RSJ doesn't reach to the cavity one end how long is the bearing? Less than 100mm or is their a pier? Edit: Perhaps I'm wrong, perhaps 100mm is ok? Temp
https://www.steelsdirect.co.uk/faqs/ Quote Typically, a minimum bearing of 100mm is needed for beams that bear either end (or sometimes both ends) onto a concrete padstone. The standard bearing is 150mm, and this can be larger. But, anything under 100mm would be highly unusual, as the less the beam bears onto the padstone the less force can be transferred down into a building’s foundations. Check with whoever designed the beam? Edited October 4, 2023 by Temp
Big Jimbo
My SE has speed 300 bearing each end for my steel, and 200mm for another. Even concrete lintels over internal doors have to have a 150 bearing if the door opening is wider than 900. I would check with the beam designer. Less than 100mm sounds iffy. George
100mm is almost always fine for the beam, the longer bearing lengths are there to protect the masonry.
